30 hp E-tec versus 30 hp Mercury 4-stroke
I would like to get some feed-back on these two motors. the 30 hp E-tec's have only been available for a year so I don't know how much information I'll get back.
Please comment on the 30 hp E-tec or 30 hp 4-stroke Mercury.
Thanks.

Which dealer is located closer to you? I would personally choose Evinrude, but I will let more knowledgeable people chime in.

The merc 30 is a chinese built motor.
But it runs good, quite, and starts easy, my neighbor bought one last year.

I prefer 2-strokes so I choose the E-tec. Either is a good motor.
What are you using it for?'72 Glastron GT-150 Johnson Stinger 65

I have a 75 e-tec. It gets good fuel economy, easy to winterize, and easy to operate and use. They are great engines.

Thanks for your note. I thought the E-tec was made in China (just recently heard that) and a bit disappointed too. Maybe it's because I see so much Chinese stuff in Wal-mart.
I also heard the Mercury was manufactured in Japan.
Thanks again.

L.N.
Thanks for sharing the E-tec report. Here's another question I believe "you" will have knowledge on. The 25 and 30 E-tecs are the same 578 cc and I've been told it's the mapping or amount of fuel and how the fuel is delivered which determines the HP. Do you truely believe the 30 provides the extra 5 hp or could it be less?
Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts.

Hi John,
The motors are available in 3 formats
15HO for serious thrust as auxillary power, Also 25HP & 30HP
In every catagory they kick butt & have features that will take a long time for any other manufacturer to catch up.
A 30hp just set a "Green" world record of just on 52mph.
Yes the 30hp is 30hp & the 25hp is 25hp. Each motor has its own computer mapping & in the case of the 15hp has EXTRA HEAVY duty stern brackets to give extra strength when on tilt in big sea's on big boats. It has super fine tuning so you can (with the press of a button) change RPM by 50rpm. I will post more details here shortly. Frankly if you are a fishing guy & the price is right go for the 25hp. Even comes with Tilt & trim if you want. Idles on one quarter litre an hour fuel consumption @ 600rpm.Last edited by LIQUID NIRVANA; 02-02-2010 at 07:02 PM.
