Hydrostream Restore.
I've looked a bit on this thread but I didn't notice anything on Valero, 18', restores. Well at least that's what model Stream I believe it is that I'm going to get. It' stripped down to the stringers and has the primmer already applied. No knicks or cracks, it just needs the stringgers redone, Oh and since it's open I'll make sure the transom has some extra strenght. I was thinking of putting a center seat, I think it has the steering on the side, port? LOLs shows how much I know!

Anyway I guess the boat is from the late 80s and the trailer is in fair shape, has no motor but it's FREE!

Now I'll expect to pay about $1200 for steering, I'll run about 250HP on it, and as far as a jack plate, hydr?, and set back I'm at a loss with weither I need it or not, I would guees so??
I know I can get a good paint job, like the new Streams, or just paint it white at the same time I paint my Banana which would cost very little extra. Now I'm sure a windshield, the newer curved ones, would run about $1200 or so? The seats I can get very cheap, I'm thinking of the drivers seat and two seats at the back. To do all this, make it mint condition, I'm thinking it may only cost 6-7K? I've got my modified GT 200s of which I'll use one and sell the other. Does this sound like a smart restore and can anyone give feeback on the older 18' Streams? Thanks!INXS

If it needs stringers it's going to need core.

I think your saying rip up the sub floor? I'm thinking that willn't be much work, maybe 16 hrs to eip and relay? Anyway I'll loolk into threads hear and in the Stream owners site, I didn't have the time to look much today. Thanks!
BTW, getting it for free I would think mit could still come out good?
I'll get some pics next week.INXS

Do you order the stringers or just make a tenplate?

Redoing a stream is a lot of work! It's worth it in the end. Plan on 1-2 hundred hours and 1-2 thousand in materials. Everything needs to be made you can't buy stringers.

Are you counting the costs of things like the seats, gas tank, gauges, paint and so on or is that just ripping the core and stringers out and redoing them?
From what I saw from the mfg. there 20'er are selling for about 16K and they will go up to 18K in the spring if I recall. So if I can get it rigged with steering, jackplate and so on for about 7K it should be worth it. That is of course going with a a plain white paint job. Not sure what the windshields run, new, used, I'm sure there's a supplier out there that makes copies of them or a mfg. that wholesales them? If not I hear you can put a EZ $1200-1500 on a custum built one?INXS

Thanks, I though so. Specialty chemicals, resins and paints, prices have gone up a lot and will go even higher as bigger mfgs are buying up the competition.

Seems Scream has the best info on restores, I'll have to read up on them.

stream
build a cradle to sit the boat in while working on it, so that the shape is kept in tact.
you can use cheap lumber but make sure everything butts up to the surface of the boat. you can put a little bondo between the lumber and fiberglass to keep everything in contact, but just put some thick carnauba wax on the surface of the boat first, or the bondo can stick.
if this is your first "fast" boat, be careful, it'll hurt you. get some seat time around 65 mph or so for a while and then gradually move up. be careful with the power trim, it'll make you swim.

Thanks, I'm in no rush to do the project as I'll need to test run my 19' Scarab first, it has about a 320hp and I'll decide if I want to sell it and restore the Hydro.. I also have a 24' Banana so one will have to go and I think it will be the Scarab as that way I'll have a river boat, the Hydro, and a ocean boat, the Banana. It will also free up some cash for the Hydro if I sell the Scarab. Oh I've got a modified GT200 for the Hydro. too.
