gearcase parts interchange discussion
ok, lets talk gearcases and what you found will interchange and won't, so far i've found that the torquemaster and sporty/200/cle cases have different length carriers, i've also found that the propshaft od on the bearing surface is a different size(200 propshaft is smaller in this area), but i haven't measured the id of the bore in the sporty carrier to see if a 200 or cle pshaft bearing would fit, so lets get a discussion going as far as interchangeability

The early CLE carrier will work with the 200 prop shaft. I have a fleet case with that HD carrier out of a 2 hole CLE and had to make a thick shim to get to tighten up. Working great so far. Hope this helps.

I may be mistaken, I think the later CLE's have the "FAT" shaft and would work with the HD carrier out of a TM. I have one out of torque master that I am going to make a sleeve to adapt the standard bearing down. It would just need to be steel or aluminium and have the correct tolerances just like installing a sleeve in a engine. I will make it where it still uses the snap ring and will be bored just deep enough for 1 bearing. I may even cut a groove in it for a snap ring. A little Loc-tite bearing retainer. Should be good. Just my thought.

Maybe I will do it sometime this winter. If I get caught up. But not in need of it right now is also a factor. LOL!!

gearcase stuff
man this is a lot of variable info to try and put in print just about all 2 hole cle had the 1.81 dia. prop shaft but not all!!! same as fishin mota some of the early a torqmaster did have a shorter carrier up OG6 number motas then they went to same as Sportmaster and latest models 4 hole CLE's had all same gears and propshaft different carriers on some ! some with rear drains some with out!! some early CLES 2 hole had a dual beaing carrier inline with a special long bearing race on the shaft. looking at MY Midas electronics parts catalog really is not the whole story because when Mercury superceeds a part number the old one goes away it still exists in the real world but not available to us info wise 135,150,200 are all the same case 1647-9147 then numbers progress as case design changes a little over a few years but not much there were actually about 4 or 5 different designs from Mercury on the CLE options over the years im not really sure i have had a lot of gearcase parts to mess with 3.0 liter cases are a horse of another color very simalar to 2.5 case's in a lot of ways drive shaft bottom end is exact to each other on the late models spline is different and so on i can identify just aout any part by its stamping if that will help you. and if you need a little heavier carrier in your 200 case just use a starndard 3.0 carrier same shaft size but twice as heavy looks like a cle carrier
