after working for ford and gm ( lincoln-mercury & cadillac) for over 35 years,seeing recalls ,bulletins poor quality issues ,cheep parts ,built from other countrys,failure after failure ,i can say this,i am tired of american vehicles . pricing keeps rising ,,too many "features" that fail over & over,( it keeps me very buisy,for that i am greatfull!!)BUT.... I DONT LIKE TO FIX MY OWN VEHICLES,i would rather spend my time & money on my hobbies,boats & bikes!guess what i drive
.a car or truck is a necessary tool .also i'm not fooled by informercials... remember the etech one......

The only thing that I noticed that was sort of doctored was that while all four manufacturers produce two v8's, Ford was the only one that used their small 4.7 in the testing. The Toyota 5.7, Dodge 5.7 and Chevy 5.3 were all larger engines.
In the first durability test I don't know that it would have made any difference.
In the cornering, the better center of gravity probably helped the Ford.
In the mpg, well that is on the verge of false advertising.
I wish they had put their 5.4 up to test against the rest. I'm also guessing thats why there were no pulling tests in this supposedly objective test.1999 Allison xb2003 2001 200XS

seeing the frame moving around in the toyota was convincing enough!!! incidentally, the ford diesels are built by navistar(international), don't know about the new ones

None of the big three specifically design or develop their diesel engines in house, it isn't their specialty, in fact building cars is their specialty, not building parts, they actual "make" very little anymore.
Dodge=cummins
Ford=navistar/international
GM=duramax
Most of the gas powerplants are designed outside as well. Most of the engineers "manage" their particular parts with suppliers doing the actual design and development.
Of course I am painting this with a VERY broad stroke here, but you see the point.

i have 2 fords and two toyota built vehicles; I hate to say it but there is absolutely no comparison. hopefully the restructuring of the big 3 will do some good.

my 2005 GMC with the 5.3 is nice, gets 16-17 mpg average. but seems that the power is lacking. it is the 5.3 with the aluminum block also so it supposidly has more torque and HP but seems slower than my 97 vortec and if i remember correctly my 95 seemed stronger. but the 2005 does cruze at 70 mph at about 2100 rpms. i thought the 95 and 97 were alittle higher than that.

Nice video
The Ford PSD 7.3 was made by International but designed by Cummins (pretty much everything but the old 7.3 block that was beefed, Cummins did heads/turbo/intake/fuel/controls), Ford still saying they designed the 6.0 and the new one last I read, because it was not getting done by whoever was supposed to do it, think International still manufactures them. Last I heard they were going to use a V8 diesel from Range Rover for F150, but they sold them. They did make an old PSD V6 for the F150 and never used it, only used in commercial trucks. IMO they should have put a smaller DI diesel in trucks over a decade ago, if you want to be the leader there is no excuse, but then that is what they do.
I can't agree with the old I6 and 351 being good engines, the chevy slammed them on pretty much any comparison you want to make in V8s. The I6 was ok but lacked on mpg some. Having put a lot of miles on a '97 F-150 and older trucks I can say the 4.6 back then pulled better than a 351, even though it felt slow empty. The 351 was amazingly good at burning gas as was the 5.0. The offroad '97 had better trans programming without doubt, lower gear I think too, I could get 20 on the highway with a 4x4. I drove a new '07 think it was F-150 5.4, it was not too bad empty. I didn't care that much for the new Mustang looking interior far as style.
They do strange stuff sometimes, I drove a trailblazer with the GM I6 maybe a '02. The thing just flew, could smoke the tires all over the place (was a new rental). I thought man would this be fun with posi in a colorado but no they never put it in there. It was a rev happy engine, I could not figure why they built it for rolly polly suv, trailblazers had the most body roll of any vehicle I've ever driven.

Ok, the new Ford ain't too bad. The big problem with Ford is they started using Chevy's and Dodge's teir 1 supplier for their body panels. Trying to cut costs. I have heard no problems out of the 4.6. There is a 05 in the driveway with 200K+ miles on it. Sorry guys Ford does know how to build a truck. Buy all the GM products you want but Ford owns the truck category.
Yoda does look funny!!!

4.0L Diesel for Land Rover was built by Nissan if my memory serves. I don't know why they haven't used more small DI diesels in trucks and SUVs. That is what they are meant to do. (The rover diesel is DI also)

Dodge's new half ton will have a Cummins.
The Chevy will be a smaller Duramax.
Ford has canceled plans for their 4.4 in house built engine with no plans for future half ton diesels.
I don't know if Chevy or Dodge will come out soon with their versions. With the financial troubles they are having and the price for diesel over gasoline I wouldn't blame them for holding off or scrapping the small diesel.
With diesel selling for something like 60 percent higher than gas a half ton diesel getting anywhere under 30 mpg would probably not be a big seller.1999 Allison xb2003 2001 200XS

That figures, what idiots, but I'm sure it has to do with current issues and particularly truck sales figures.
