    Boat as tested:

    Hull: SCB Stingray 22'
    Weight: 1800# (bare)
    Motor: 250HO E-Tec
Prop: Bravo One 26" w/ 1" Ports (stock finish)
    As tested: (2) People
    (4) Batteries (Optima)
    30 gal fuel (1/2 tank)

    WOT: 67.5 @ 5900

    About the boat:

The Stingray is specialized ultra shallow water, air-entrapment boat. These machines are used mainly used in the shallow flats along the Gulf Coast, and becoming very popular with the tournament crowd.

The Stingray can operate in water less than 12", handle the bay chop, and
has the speed and range to make long runs.

Notes: Needs more torque tab on skeg. Way too much right hand steering needed to run straight.

Any sugestions on the torque tab? Is the Lightning skeg strong enough to handle the stress of a large tab?

BTW: We are seeing the same speeds w/ Mercury 250 ProXS TM (1.75). However; up to 75MPH when fitted w/ Sportmaster 1.62's. Spinning 26" Bravo's.

Some pics fof the 250HO E-Tec ,and a Yamaha 250 VMax.

    Thanks,

    SCB Factory

What was the RPM & top speed with the same load & the Stock
    Lightning 2 gearcase?
    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Less RPM than 5500 with a a higher pitch prop will increase speed BUT with an increase in fuel & oil consumption, & reduce holeshot & acceleration & motor longevity over the long term.

Ideal RPM should be around 5600rpm & would be the perfect WOT with all the combined benefits of motor longevity, lowest fuel & oil consumption, holeshot & acceleration.

How is your temperature? Should be around 145 whilst planing 165 at idle.

OPTIONAL WATER PICKUP screens are also available for the L2 & M2 stock cases when running in severly aerated water. Did you try these before going to the "Titus". These work VERY WELL.

I was having cooling issues before the LWP. I did see 66 MPH with stock case and same load. Did not note RPM's. (Eye on temp guage)

Next test will have a 28" Bravo One. The 250HO had NO problem spinning the 26".

The E-tec sounds wicked when surfaced out!

RPM is very important. If it drops below 5500 then it's better to mod so it runs at least 5500 to 5600. The motor EMM (computer) starts pumping extra oil into the engine to protect the powerhead around or above 5900. Stay around 5600 with normal load.

Hey SCB, Your 100% right about the sound of the 250 Ho when its either surfacing or trimmed out, it reminds me of a Formula 1 race car or just something evil.....

I know how to set up the Merc.

My slip ratio and RPM's are a bit high. I am determined to learn the E-Tec set up.

    I will get dialed in.

One thing is plain as day. The Sportmaster is a huge advantage for Merc.

    Come on BRP!

BRP are into it but Merc Patents are the problem.

Hey Liquid, I was told that the sportmaster gearcase was really not Mercs design back in the day???? Im not spreading rumors cause I was probably not even alive then....But is that true??? Because it came from a very very reliable engineer that is with BRP now and was around when OMC had their racing division, he seemed pretty knowledgeable.....

    the lightning should...........

Handle the torque tab, i know that we are working with alot lower slip ratios than the mercs, they like to use the torque, are u running a .54 or a .58 lightning on this???
