Small Rough Water Cats....21 or 25 footer??

    Hello All,

Gotta DCB Mach22, love it and it runs great in what I call a 2' chop....problem is when my lake gets sloppy on the weekends in the summer I can't run in it. The boat wont fly over the stuff and at 35MPH and I get pounded and very wet.

I'm definitely sold on the Cats, wondering what peoples opinions are on something that'll run in the slop better. I love the Mach22's handling, stability, and sensation of speed in good conditions, so I'm wondering if there is anything out there that can give me the best of both worlds.

Based on my research the only thing out there in a single might be a Trick 21...do you guys think that will be significantly better than the Mach22? Other than that I'm thinking a Skater/Liberator/Motion 24-25 footer with Twins. Maybe even a Skater 28, but I've never been in one, will it still give that balls to the wall sensation of speed?

    Thanks,
    Speeddemon

    Tunnel.

A freind of mine has a bad ass 28 Skater for sale in the over 20" forums. 2-3 ft chop is nothing for it. His screen name is Lake Murray.
AT IDLE or WOT, there is no in between!!!

Without a doubt. They are a blast in rough water. Your 22 won't even come close to a comparable ride.

anything in the 24 foot size will give you what you want....the biggest diffence between a 21 and a 24 isn't so much the extra 3 feet as it is the extra free board It would be intresting to measure the difference????

I run in bigger lakes and with my 24 Skater it loves it, here a pic just look how hight he bow is and it's still running flat i can run over 3 footers if the air is packed you hardly feel it...

I should know better than to get involved in this, but I am stupid like this.I absolutely agree that the V hull is the way to go. However one man's slop is anothers flat water. It seems to me that at 24' and less the cats can't hang in BIG water. There is always the exception to everything ,in this case that would be Dan in his 24 Skater SOB he just drives through whatever comes his way. I truly enjoy and admire the ride and handling of a twin outboard 28 Skater,my experience with that boat was inside not offshore. My buddy just sold his 36 NorTech Super Cat and bought a 38 Top Gun because and I quote " I cant take the pounding anymore"He routinely runs offshore between Montauk and Jones Inlet.

Ghost S84, considering the RVC adress the yammi avatar and a "2008" ghost are you perhaps building this boat yourself?

we should do a comparision , the little cats are far superior

    compare a 21 skater to a 21 superboat

    or

    a 24 superboat to a 24 skater

the cat is way ahead , i dont understand why people even debate this issue when it is so obvious the cat is superior

None of you people have a clue how big 2 or 3 foot waves are, you need a 30 foot or larger boat to run over 40 mph in 2 or 3 foot chop. Get out a yard stick right now and get a clue. Stop posting how your boats will eat 2 & 3 foot till you kids grow up.

now i know people are clueless to the true size of a wave . i have seen people call a 1 foot chop "a 3 foot chop" i agree with you on that point

but how much money are you willing to bet that my little 23 foot cat can easily run 40 mph in a true 2 to 3 foot chop(i may even be able to maintain 100 in a 2 foot chop)

even my inferior 23 foot v bottom can most likely do 40 in a 2 to 3 foot chop

So you are saying that your 28 ft Skater can't do $htt in a 2-3 ft chop? Give people a little more credit here. We all didn't start boating yesterday.

good point , i have been in a 28 skater doing 80 on gps in a nasty 3 foot wind blown chop , and it was mixed with boat wakes
