The break-in time frame can be altered with a Mercury DDT or OTC 4000 type tester (meter..)
BTW: Is your engine new and in warranty ? If so if there was an engine issue the dealer can pull up history off your ECU and could void your warranty if the history show tampering with....
But thats your call and your business

Thanks for the thoughts Jay. The engine is new and under warranty. It seems like I have run this thing close to 10 hours. The 1 st hour under 3500 2nd hour under 4500 3rd hour through present mostly around 3500 to 5000 with the odd shot up to 6000. Trim has been in 99% of time, boat only holds 3 so at least 2 in for weight at all times. Man this is one long process.

The part I don't get is the manual says nothing about the limitations.WHY? In fact I am not the only one asking since I have read many different explanations from many folks including many on here. So what seems a simple question apparently is not easily answered and I was looking for info. All I know is 1 BAD gets the smart ass award. Thanks to the others who took the point seriously. I would still like to know how is the quickest way to get out of that mode and maintain the warranty. For the 1st 7 hours I was running a 30et --should be lots of load. Although the 26 I have on now slips a lot less which would add load.

if you have 10 hours on it expect another 5+. it only clicks time off is when its under a LOAD. it took me almost 20 hours and 90+ gallons of gas to get mine off that limiter.
theres a serious answer, can i go back to being a smartass now?

It in break-in mod for a reason. You don't want to get out of it. The better you break it in the longer it will last.

On the Yamaha 1 bad---perhaps you would like to tell us how the jap's have just about taken every market from you guys in the last 30 years. Inferior products? Still drive your Edsel around 1 bad? I bought a 280 because thats what I wanted-got a problem with that? As far as performance boating I've run long enough that you have little to teach me. Other than how to be a jerk on a boating site.
