I'm going to say, that I've always thought that this color scheme is one of the sexiest ever on an outboard. I don't care how that sounds, but it's very cool.

small Johnsons
The 4 hp is a great motor, but the 2 hp wont make headway against a light breeze. I've had to row the boat just to make headway against the wind.
Love the classics

2 hp
The 2 is nice due to the built in gas tank. great for trolling on a small lake with no wind or current.

A 1985 Evinrude 2 was my very first outboard. I hated it - carb constantly needed adjusting and it never seemed to run right. The next season my dad got me a 1986 Evinrude 4DLX. Now, that was a different matter entirely - I loved that outboard. I used it everyday, and kept it like new. I sold it right before I moved to FL about 3 years ago, and it still looked like new. Good memories.

2 hp J/Es
Those 2's can actually be setup to run awesome (well, awesome as far as a single cyl 2 hp can get I guess
). It's all relative
They frequently blow head gaskets because the H/G does not have a fire ring - just gasket material. If they run even somewhat warm, poof, gasket toast and they run like crap (but they will run for ages like this). Gasket was only 5 bucks or so last time I checked, and 4 bolts !
The other thing is, the fuel tanks were usally steel and tend to rust inside, and the internal filter is too coarse to catch the ****, so it ends up in the carb. There's a tiny BOMB inline filter you can buy to put in the line to deal with this problem.
