Gen X drive less ... beware Boating & Auto industry

A generation less interested in Driving, will be LESS interested in owning and operating a car and a boat.

Gen X are less interested in having a driver's license.
Therefore, they identify less with Motor Sports and NASCAR is experiencing the changing tide's result of lesser viewership and track attendance.

Sponsors go where the people are

NASCAR blew it with over regulated cars. They all basically run the same car now the template is the same for all. Sure safety has gone up but the boredom factor grew with every regulation they implemented. The 80’s was the last great NASCAR era imo it’s been downhill since. I was told once that nascars primary goal was to have all the cars in a pack so all the sponsors could be seen on tv at once. That adds up if you follow the money. Tricky thing to run a business and keep it exciting at the swme
time. Formula one not much different it’s also pretty boring now. Shame what happened to Indy car with the cart strike and all that. It’s ironic that the Indianapolis speedway that birthed Indy cars became the reason for their demise. The drivers and teams had a good point but again letting one off cars qualify and run is what made the race exciting. Where business and racing collided and everyone lost.

Drag racing on the other hand found a grass roots resurgence with street outlaws and Cletus doing his thing. They pack the stands that’s for sure. Once outside the bounds of over regulated rule book racing things lit back up. Harder to solve with stock cars though

Excuse me. Gen X is not the problem. Millennials and Gen Z is the problem. Gen X is 1965 to 1980. 45 to 60 year olds. We love driving boats and cars.

Yup, most would rather get their fingernails painted than get a little dirt under them.

What you might have not envision is the distant future of transportation.
If the Gen Z, and subsequent generations do not find owning and operating a motorized vehicle a pleasurable convivence, then auto & boat dealers will be generating less sales.
When the newer generations feel motorized ownership is a financial inconvenience, then they will gravitate to industry businesses like Uber and other transportation services.
