    oil inj block-off

i noticed leaking around my plastid oil block-off. i removed it and it was chewed off stump about 1.5 ''long. with 1/2 o ring hangin on. memory tells me it was 3'' long going down inside the cavity? its a 2.4. guess the rest is still down the hole? cant see in there. is it the same block-0ff for a 2.4 as a 2.5? thanks

I think they’re the same. Did you buy it on eBay? I bought one there that isn’t made right. The mounting holes aren’t off center like they should be and the O ring doesn’t fit tight. And they are bad sellers. They wanted me to pay $6 return shipping on a $10 part. Several other buyers said the same thing. Taught me to read reviews before buying. If you’re lucky, that piece is either stuck in a safe place or passed through.

I think that you missed putting the tip of the block off shaft in the bushing the pump gear used to go in. It has probably been grinding on the pump gear since it was put in.

The shaft gear yes, I think SKi is talking about the nylon gear on the crank.

There’s a small brass bushing the tip of the gear rides in. The block off tip sticks into that bushing. It seems yours has probably snapped off by the plastic gear whipping around in there. This is extremely dangerous because the brass bushing is held in place by the shaft holding it down. While it seems your motor has survived catastrophe because it still runs you need to make a choice here. Choice one is get another block off and try to install it and hope all the crud has blown out the exhaust and that’s that. Or choice two pull the power head and either remove the brass bushing and fill the hole with epoxy eliminating the need for the block off kit altogether. Also allows you to clean out any crap in there and inspect the plastic gear which is probably damaged too. Those things have been known to explode now and then taking out the whole motor. They are mounted loose fit to wobble into alignment with the worm drive gear of the oil pump shaft.

I’d take option two but suit yourself.

You take the driven gear out but leave the drive gear on the crankshaft. If you miss the hole with the block off shaft, the shaft will rub against the crank gear. Use a borescope to look in the pump hole. If you don't have one they are cheap. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CGJK3BWM...n_title_1&th=1

If you’re block off is made right the big portion under the flange is tight in the hole and won’t let the stem get out of line. I bet you got one of those bad ones like I bought. They’re junk.
