    CLE Nose cone

Im sure this has been asked but i have a Carlson IO with an alpha doing
77 and was wondering if a CLE cone would do any good.

I doubt if you would gain, probably lose MPH. A nose cone really only helps when the lower unit is in a surfacing position. Your lower unit will always be submerged on that rig so I would say NO. Can you check your speed with a GPS, maybe on your phone. That speed seems really high!

    Best wishes, Carter Powell

    Yes a built 383
I bought it with no engine put the stroker engine in it .
Had trouble finding a prop it liked found a 24 trophy plus that it liked.
Carried the boat great with very little trim and accelerated like an outboard but a little high RPM
Found a 26 trophy plus and now not as fast out the hole but still runs great and 5 MPH top end.
Trying to get 80 thats why asking about the nose cone

The CLE has a point and when trimmed out it will push the stern down. Years ago Hydromotive made a cone that offered less down force; It was more of a wedge. If your leaning toward trying something research that.

Not listed on their site anymore. Oh well. Sorry that isn't much help

You may want to consider the 1:32 gears that the Alpha 1 had when put behind the 454 Magnum 330hp. This ratio handles the torque better.

I take it the 1.32 gears overdrive the propshaft allowing lower pitch props
to ease the strain on the upper gear set and the case.
