    Reed stops?

When putting fiber reeds on 4 petal cages, do I use the stock curved metal stop or is there something better? How far do fiber reeds ever open?

Yes. I also suggested blue loctite on the screws. I put a little pool of loctite in a water bottle cap and dipped the tip of the screw in during assembly. Some pics here

It depends on the reeds you are using. Boyeson reeds come with the plate they want you to use with no stops. Chris Carson wants you to use the factory plate with stops.

TDR reeds here using factory stops. Runs great. Although I have to wonder here if this is my choke point? Maybe if I pull the stops it makes more power? Hmmm

I can’t get an answer as to how far the reed opens without stops during normal operation. I would guess not much more than the reed stop allows? Seems the stops might prevent damage due to lean sneeze, backfire, etc.?

What block you running? Did you open the exhaust dump? Has anybody figured the Reed cage volume compared to exhaust dump volume? Seems air volume into engine versus volume out would be key issue?

I highly doubt that reeds open all the way to the stops. I have never seen a mark on any reed indicating they ever hit the stops.

FF opened dump, rod slots, 135 compression, four petal, promax ecu. No calculations or data just following other mod plans

That’s what I’m building except I’m running carbs. How’s the performance? Rpm’s, boat weight, prop, etc. ?

Motor works well. Pulls hard to 6000, Ive had it to 7500 or so a few times. It will turn mid 6's pretty easy but you have to have a lot of runway to wind it up higher. Hull weighs 704lbs, 28+30p props mostly. Made my fastest pass with a 28.

I am curious. How did you weigh your hull? Is that empty? With interior, carpet, seats, etc.? Fully rigged with battery gas tank etc. The Hydrostream site has different weights listed depending on where you look.

i put the boat/mtr/trailer on scale, tanks empty, lipo batt=0. subtracted 400 lbs/motor +trailer. 750lbs just what mfg. said from an old brochure, not exact, but close. heavy for only 15'6''x7'beam. front deck is 3/16'' thick, all f. cloth w/ 1''x2'' cross braces 16'' o/c from dash to bow.
