Tuff Cat
From the Tuff Facebook page:
It’s been a long time coming and a lot of people have asked my Dad (Mark Weigl): “When are you going to build a Cat?”. Due to his history in offshore racing, his answer was always, “You don’t understand, they guys that build them now are the best in the industry, have years of development, and if we ever were to build one it would have to be equal or better or we wouldn’t bother.” Ignoring this, I pushed him for a Cat. I want to race like my parents did, and the only way to do that is to build it yourself. So here it is: the 32ft TUFFCAT. For our first scale model, we will be making small changes and plan on making a second before we build the plug and moulds. This boat will be full race legal for stock class and we will have a pleasure version with a full modern wraparound windshield. Both versions will be catered to the 300 hp range with an outboard motor. Huge thank you to Scott Porta for getting us up-to-date on what modern Cats are like and what we need to watch for as we design our first Cat. Also a big thank you to Jim Russel from aero marine research Very exciting times !!!
Length 32’
Width 10’

It looks fast, but on those ruff days those Big steps on the Victory boats seem to be an advantage, in race conditions.
The Tuff does look sweet, there is another 32 plug being built now but to my knowledge, It won't have the large deep steps
For calm water, It doesn't seem to matter, any pleasure boater might not see much if any advantage.

I’m so excited for this, beyond the length width and tunnel rules it is A LOT different than anything else in the class. Like the Vee bottoms they build they are going their own way. Can’t wait for a ride!

Shaun Torrente came out with his own design, and he's still trying to get it set up,
He took third behind the two Victory boats, I'm sure you know who designed them, the same as the bat boats. Ocke Mannerfelt
Best of luck
Ocke Mannerfelt started the Mannerfelt Design Team in early 1980 and since then has specialised in well-designed boats and high quality engineering. MDT has always had a hand in designing racing motorboats and are now world leaders, with 16 World Championship titles in Offshore racing. We have invented the world; WE see

I love NEW, it would be great if he succeeds as a dominant figure.
Is there a limit to how many boats can run at one time? The way this class is growing is Special.
Bringing Offshore back to life, between the different clubs If someone made all the races it would be a full-time job.We have invented the world; WE see

So sorry Shaun's boat is a collaboration between him and Ocke Mannerfelt, do you feel better now Joe?
If you look at the S2 boat it has less freeboard with the sides angled inward vs vertical on the Victory
I believe these were Shauns Ideas, and used CDF to clean up the air drag.
I've heard discussions by other builders who don't agree, with his Ideas, that's the beauty of this class is everyone is looking for an
edge so many new 32 ft designs are spawned, We the consumers are the benefactors in the long run,
I've started another thread so I quit highjacking TUFF,
