    Cuda… you are correct.

Same boat, same motor & the gearcase in those pictures is the bone stock SHO Yamaha unit which has the water pickups on the side. You are also correct that the skeg has been modified and enlarged, the nosecone is a Nizpro & a blowout ring has been installed also.

I had a chance to try a prototype case that the guys at MCR performance had before modifying mine and it worked extremely well… it was like night and day as far as top end, stability & overall boat attitude so I decided to have mine made to those specs. Now dont quote me on this but I’ve heard some local guys around here say that the skeg design was something that somebody at Tuff marine up here in Canada had come up with to run on their boats that they’ve been rigging up and testing with the SHO Yamahas recently.

Here are a few work in progress pics… The before and after pics are at almost the same angle/distance & side profile to give a good view of exactly what has changed.

Larger skeg is extremely beneficial when running high X dimensions. All the new Sportmasters have massive skegs as they run higher than the older 3L sporty ever could. World Champion drag racers 20 years ago put larger skegs on all types of lowers to run them up to the moon and still keep some directional rudder. Nothing new to those in the know.

Did you have problems driving before the added welding?

I've never known a 20ft HP boat that needed extra skeg.?

Except for a drag racer who had his motor almost 24-inch offset, and way high, on an Allison no less.

It sure is fugly. At first I thought it was a tiny bullet style but it’s just the scale of the thing that makes it look that way. From what I can tell through trends is v hulls sure like a longer bullet to ride on where a cat likes em small. Adding more skeg and a longer bullet adds a lot more surface area which has to help with stability. That said the extra long snout gives me the queasies a bit. Looks like it could catch weird sort of a stuffing event at speed and unsettle things. Just how it looks I could be on crack lol

Transitional length and O.A. length of gearcase changes the trim of the boat at speed. they want the boat to run flat. And usually flat is fast if you have the hp needed. Might be a bad thing on a different hull.
