New Tesla Roadster claimed 0-60 MPH in 1 second

That's what Elon Musk claims. We all know that some of their car models are ludicrously quick so I might be inclined to believe it could be close to that claim. Its price will be $200-$250K.

Also for your viewing pleasure - check this Tesla out at the drag strip. It runs low 9s in the quarter mile. That is just insane.

Only way it's doing that is on a perfectly prepped drag strip on drag slicks.

That would produce 2.7 G's. Would need some real good seats to keep from injuring people. Head and body pads/restraints etc.

Remember watching Spaceballs, and laughing at Ludicrous speed? And here we are.

Was at Firebird Raceway last weekend, watching some vintage/ fuelie drags. Crazy to think that off the showroom floor, you can buy something from multiple manufacturers competitive with a tubbed, tube frame, purpose built dragster. Crazy times.

I don't think a 1 second 0-60 time is possible with street tires on real pavement with a US legal road car. But it would be fun to be proven wrong. For what it's worth, Lucid sells a slightly faster sedan then the Tesla S Plaid.

Might not even need a driver to accomplish that. Was in AZ last weekend, and the Google car was going around, mapping streets, sans driver. The future is now, I guess.

Porsche's latest Taycan Turbo GT beat Tesla Model S Plaid’s Nurburgring Lap Time By 18 Seconds.

    https://www.carscoops.com/2024/01/a-...by-18-seconds/

"Porsche was so thrilled with the upcoming EV’s lap time that they decided to reveal it before the model’s official launch. Test driver Lars Kern achieved an impressive time of 7:07.55 at the formidable track, marking a 26-second improvement over the car’s previous best lap."

But does it play turbocharger sounds through the stereo while you drive? What a stupid name!

"A 2021 Tesla Model S Plaid previously held the title of quickest EV ever tested by C/D. While the Sapphire tied the Plaid's incredible 60-mph time of 2.1 seconds, the Lucid hit 100 mph in 4.2 ticks and finished the quarter-mile in 9.3 seconds at 153 mph. Both of those results are a tenth better than the 1020-hp all-wheel-drive Tesla, which needed 4.3 seconds to hit 100 mph and 9.4 seconds at 151 mph to complete the quarter-mile."

"Better yet, let the Sapphire's other acceleration times prove its dominance. After accelerating past the 120-mph mark, the ballistic Lucid began to really separate itself from the Tesla, hitting 130 mph seven-tenths sooner at 6.0 seconds flat. As the speedometer hit 140, 150, and 160 mph, the Sapphire held leads of three-, four-, and five-tenths, respectively.

The comparison ends at that point because the Plaid we tested was limited to 162 mph, while the Sapphire topped out at an insane 207 mph."

    https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...ning-lap-2024/

"the Sapphire is far and away the quickest EV and four-door we've ever lapped"

"The Sapphire shattered the Lightning Lap EV record by nearly 11 seconds and became the fastest four-door, edging out the Porsche Panamera Turbo S by 3.5 seconds. "

No turbo sounds from the Lucid. I don't know what noise maker options Porsche has. On the Tesala Model 3 and Model Y, one can program fart noises. I would do that.

I still don't think 0-60 in one second is possible with street tires alone, but maybe with assist from compressed gas, it could be done.

    "long-promised rocket-assisted handling"
"Therefore, we are betting on some kind of compressed gas-assisted launch system to be shown off under controlled conditions."

All wheel drive. These things are absolutely incredible for what they weigh. Take a ride and experience launch mode, (it will carve a memory in your mind), and you can do it over and over. I have a supercharged vette making 750 RWHP and it feels like a total slug in comparison to a Plaid launch.

Yeah, Musk also said the tri-motor Cybertruck would have over 500 miles range, now less than 400 miles,

He should get into politics he knows how to promise.

Do you want to bet you will never see a production sub-1-second car?

Musk does this so everyone starts talking about him, just like the Cybertruck smashed window

    It's the Musk show.

If Musk delivered 500 + trucks as he promised, then I would have bought the Founders edition; they sent me an email because I submitted my deposit minutes from opening,

But to pay $120,000 for a LIE. Like 150 miles less than promised, sad JOKE.

To be honest, I'll wait for the next generation of batteries to arrive,

Range Anxiety is REAL. After traveling thru central Florida with my brother in his Model S years ago, you have to plan ahead

The car knows where the charging stations are, But if you have over 500 miles range/so they say

If you drive at 75 to 80 + like everyone does around here, and accelerate fast from lights, you would be lucky to get 400 miles in the

In reality, I can live with 400 real miles, nothing less for $100,000.

Having driven a Plaid, I can tell you it is an acceleration that almost takes your breathe away. And I work in the performance industry with a lot of fast cars.
