Notch the transom and add a pad to the Cigarette bottom and you are up to date. Except I did not know that the Fountain beak had a purpose other then to appeal to Hydrostream fans.

I remember the first time I drove the 38 Cigarette when they added the notch to it. Previously the boat ran heavy and always seemed under powered and in search of some wakes or rougher water. The notch lightened the boat and made it fun to run with 420's

...stepp had two deck molds for the 30. one he called the race deck model, that was flaired up in front of the dash. the other he called the sedan deck. the sedan deck was almost a direct duplicate of the mirage deck. balzy...

...this is a pic of one of the first couple 30 velocity's that stepp built from the mirage hull on the inside of the bilge. the first couple he actually made, the added transom step went full width, from one side of the transom to the other, before he reduced the overall width down to just the center area of the hull. he reduced its width after a couple boats because he realized all offshore boats needed room to mount trim tabs, etc., which he didn't think about. i do remember one of these boat was a big cube single engine speedmaster 30 raceboat attempt. this boat is an old pic from someone in canada rebuilding one of these old boats. so, you can see here "how" stepp lengthened the 29, into the 30...

...not to mention the diagonal transom corners that coinside with the add-on length, ala small opc type transoms of the 70's era. you can also see, in this pic, the rare full width transom "stepp", of the earliest 30's he made...
