Lithium battery on a 260 without voltage rectifier
Will not having a voltage regulator on a 16amp system damage a lithium battery or should I just stay with a lead acid battery.
Many thanks, Carter

Be very careful!!
We ran an Antigravity lithium battery on my son’s modified Yami 90.
It turned 7500-8000 and after a prolonged run down the lake at high RPM the battery caught fire…..this is why you carry a fire extinguisher!!
I thought it may have been defective. Cleaned everything up and swapped in an extra Volt Freak I had on the shelf. After a few more rips up & down the lake he came back and said his trim wasn’t working…….nothing was working……no hydro……
Volt Freaks have an automatic shut off….. if they get overloaded or detect excess voltage they shut off.
Turned the battery back on & he was back in business.
As it turns out, at excessively high rpm the Yami produces a lot of juice….enough to spark up an unprotected lithium battery.
If you’re going to run a lithium battery I’d suggest you have a good voltage reg to dump excess voltage and / or run a battery with overload protection.
Or you could run a good ol’ lead / acid battery……when in doubt, keep it simple….*♂️

Curious, why aren't you running a rectifier? At any rate, if you want to go lithium, get a hold of the people at EarthX. They have a good protection system on their batteries. I run their batteries on everything I own. My motorcycle sat over a year, and the battery lost .1 volt

Yes or no.
You should never run a LiFePO4 battery without a BMS. The BMS, as long as it works right, will take the battery offline before you burn up your boat. You may be stranded if that is the only battery in your boat. This is less likely to happen if you have a properly functioning regulator. It’s always better not force the BMS to take drastic action.
I hear you can buy LiFePO4 batteries without BMS. Too risky for me.
So get a GOOD regulator before you go with lithium iron phosphate … or stick with lead acid.

I wouldn't do it. Without a regulator, if the BMS shuts off due to the lithium being fully charged, I have a feeling you're going to be burning up electrical components on your motor when the amperage has nowhere to go.
