I know someone who weighed a 1985 model last year with 300X, 12" Porta bracket, tabs, interior, electronics, ready to run: 3450 lbs. Not sure how much fuel was in the boat or if ballast was in the bow at the time. Heavier than I thought it would be but that is a real number.

...the old 22's needed no tabs of any kind, unless its a serious offshore raceboat. the very small number of new boat customers that asked steve about installing tabs, he talked them out of them every time, for a reason. now, this would apply to any & all size & brand "two-cycle" outboard rigged boats back then, including all the single V-8 johnrude installs. installing a new modern day four-cycle...well...who knows. new 22 i/o boats never needed tabs either. can't recall a one, that went out with tabs. again, boats just did not need them. it was rare. the twin 2.4 offshore race 22's...yes...they usually got k-plane tabs. they were about the only ones...

...when steve went broke & sold out to regal, production was at its peak on the 22's, coming out of pompano @ 2 1/2 22's per week. this included the newest 22 center console version & 22 bass boat...

Not sure what top end was as the boat was set up to go 60 mph. I believe the tabs on this boat were Dana Marine.

I had a I/O 22 with a Big Block originally with #2 SSM later a bravo and SBC. I put about 800 hours on it (still have that one also) . I used the tabs regularly (kplane 280) as it was run hard in the gulf of Mexico and cg was rather aft. This one will be support boat for the race team. We have Kplanes sitting so I figured I would just build it to the max right out of the box. It will not see calm water very often and will definitionally be run hard. The tabs I saw Steve use were the Wolverine K plane copies.

Reggies always had deadrise except for the original Excaliburs that basiclly laid a plank in the V to make the pad. This is not totally flat has small deadrise very minimal

...yes, steve had a set of old wolverine marine(michigan) tab molds that were just square & went on about a half a dozen boats or so. mostly on a larger hull. the molds sat down at "broward castings" foundry which has been torn down & claimed by broward county & is now lauderdale airport property. they lucked out as the property could not be sold due to contamination & got fair market value despite this. they were simply called up & asked to build a couple more pairs of tabs on rare occassion. they were rough & needed much grinding/trimming, then painted. mercury cylinders, pumps & hoses were used to finish them. "bluewater" indicators from california were used to indicate them. not too many of them were used.

My 30 (originally Gene Whip running Cobra's) had them as did Captain Maintained/Gulfwind and Kihldahl had some on his 26. The plates I am using are baked carbon from Italy pretty trick stuff but flexed on a SVL. They should work well on this and make a nice long boat.
