    022 Ford Maverick

Has anyone bought or driven the new Ford Maverick?

Im looking for a smaller pickup to do some light hauling and pull a sub 20’ boat less than a 100 miles.

Im a GMC guy but I do like the look, price and size of the Maverick over the GMC Canyon.

Im just not sure about the 4 cylinder 2.0L turbocharged or the new 2.5l hybrid power plant in the Ford.

    Thanks-

Mexican made and there's a few weak spots on them. Guy on line "ford boss me" (who's a service tech) has done some tech reviews on them. He likes them in general.

So they are making 4 different models of trucks? Maverick, Ranger, F150, and the F250-350 body? Wow!

...the tv commercials months ago, lasted a couple weeks, saying they were $20,000 each. cool looking, cool colors, etc. the commercials stopped. a few months past & i went in to buy one. the dealer had no enthusiasm at all to talk about them, as he knew nobody was going to get them, or sell any, forever. research told me that most dealers across america had only a couple on order each. by the way, at the same time, no new car dealers down here had "ANY" other new cars at all, on their lots. 90 percent of all the mavericks that people put their names in, on the waiting list, and there are a gazillion on order, are for the hybrid version. gas with electric. have lost all interest on this cute little bait & switch deal. and i'm a ford guy...

And if you have a problem with your new expensive vehicle, parts are backordered for weeks or longer. With the govt promising 12,500 tax incentive rebates on EV's I would not bet the gas/diesel trucks will be around long...I guess in 2-3 yrs they will be dinosaurs. The mfgrs are in on the green plan guys...We been sold out again.

The standard hybrid can only tow 2000 lb, not quite enough for my SS2000. The turbo fuel economy is poor.

SCT...I'm shopping now also. As for the Ford Maverick...

I see them around here now. I've spoke to a few who own them. I stopped to speak to them at grocery stores. Menard's and Home Depot. So far they all said they were delighted. 4 said they had the FWD Hybrids the other had the 4WD big motor. None said they were priced gouged. I recently spoke to several Ford dealers in my area. All stated customer ordered units are arriving now. If a unit comes in for stock inventory they sell quickly. I have yet to drive one.

I miss my big F350 4WD Diesel. However, I don't need that anymore. Only need to locally haul small loads or tow race boat/lake toy stuff. 2000lb tow cap works for me. Between the Santa Cruise and Maverick, The Maverick has an edge for my use in payload capacity and overall flexibility. Would probably have to get gas once a month.

Just got my Feb 2022 Motor Trend truck of the year issue. The Maverick, Santa Cruise and Hummer were finalists. Rivian's R1T got truck of the year. Interesting read.

Around here... I can buy a nice full size 1/2 ton Ford, Ram, Chevy or GMC for the same price or cheaper than their mid size offerings. Just seems dumb.

I'm a ford tech, I have driven a few of them. The ranger is a better truck, the maverick is a better all around vehicle. Maverick has more interior space front and rear, can tow up to 4000 pounds with the max tow package, and gets decent fuel mileage. I think once the maverick production can keep up with demand it'll ruin Ranger sales. The Ranger is cramped inside, fuel mileage isn't much different than a full size, and price isn't enough of a factor either. But, it's body on frame, has a real transfer case 4x4 system, and can tow up to 7500 lbs
