    Boyesen Reeds into Merc 225?

I'm considering putting a set of these in the '81 bridgeport, any experiences to share?

I put a set in my '84 Merc 150 many years ago and was happy with the result.

I ended up going with Boyesen. Put a set in my 150 many years ago and was happy. Loved the "growl" as the second set started opening.

When everyone said "Carson" I thought that was a vendor since I have never heard of them before.

As to short life these are carbon fiber and should last ages. Merc racing also recommends carbon fiber reeds.

Well Mr Carson I guess I've seen the core of your marketing campaign, let the lost customer know they don't know much. I also don't know which OEM equipment manufacturers your reeds go out with as factory equipment. I'm really clueless I guess.

I did contact Boyesen about these, their engineering department replied with:

Attached is a picture of Boyesen reed # 267. These are dual-stage fiberglass material reeds. The larger primary reed is made from approximately .0195” thick fiberglass material and the smaller secondary reed is made from approximately .016” thick fiberglass material. These reeds are made to fit a stock carbureted Mercury engine with 7-petal reed cages.

Sir,please understand I was in no way implying anything disrespectful, just wondering where the carbon Referance came from,as these are not carbon fiber, but fiberglass dyed black.your reeds will do the job,and I’m not into product bashing.I invited a call via PM,to help you understand reeds a bit better…
    sincerely,Chris

I just guessed they were CF, guessed wrong. This all started with me asking for the truth to come out: which was best. No one has said why any other reed is better.

They are dyed, not painted. Color is added to the resin or they use black resin.

Tough crowd, typical for most internet forums

If they are died .. or the color is in the resin .. wouldn't they black .. or better said ... a single color all the way through ???

I've been running CCM reeds for a while now and never had a problem with them. Very noticeable difference when compared to OEM steel reeds. Chris stands behind them too. That's reason enough for me to keep running them. Maybe one day ill try the black ones but as of today, i cant think of a good reason to take the time to do it. No matter what you go with, if its not steel you're making the right choice.
