Chaz, whats your opinion on Nicasil vs steel sleeves, 2 or 4 stroke?

Dave , ya got me backed in a corner with a muzzle on ...
Mark @ U.S. has been really, really good to me
The Mahle name of "Nikasil" is trademark registered.
    So everybody else sells "NiCom".
Sposta be the same Nickel slurry with Silicon Carbide blended in.
If nothing else, the E.P.A. Gestapo has went from a mom + pop shop in 1970 to full on terror unit in 2020. You wouldn't believe the hoops they make our local Chrome Shop go thru to keep the doors open .. Pretty sad ... I thought they worked for us ..

The Porsche cylinders I finish for a local race shop seen to last a long time. They use it in high dollar Benz engines to this day. The two strokes biggest setback is the "interrupted walls" (ports) . Thinly coated rings and wall, not a good mixture for reliability. But them little 2.5 blocks .. you bout carry two in each hand .. pretty light ..

I didn't check to see if either steel , bare aluminum or coated aluminum is available for those motors. I'm sure if it's not on the web page, Jeff @ Advanced Sleeve would do a custom for you .

Keep in mind, plating is not Bondo. It will fill a few thousands, but not gouges.

That motor does have a "plain bearing" crank. I would pull it apart, if the bottom hasn't spun a main or rod bearing , the heads don't have rot .. then if you want it and its cheap enough .. why not ..

If its one your gonna care enough about, to keep. Then I'd replate the block and start fresh. In the scheme of things, it's not that much money.

If it really only needs one .. and your gonna keep it. Sleeve the one hole. Keep in mind nothing is cheap about that either.

If it's just something cheap to go out and run the *&%$%**# out of .. Throw a steel sleeve in it and treat it like all of them are steel .. warm it up before blast off etc ..

Thanks Chaz, I think I'm going to see what he will let it go for and buy it. Sounds like I have lots of options. Apparently he contacted Millennium for a quote on plating and they told him they no longer plate those. I'm going to call them for some sort of verification/explanation though.

Mongoose Machine used to do a nice job of plating sled jugs. Maybe try them, they are in Canada.

Ill check them out. I think theres a local sled shop that used to use them quite often, but he bought another business now. Not sure if he is still doing the machine shop stuff or whatever, but Ill look into it.
