We found a guy in S.W. Florida that was willing to fix the hull for us. So far we are very happy with the progress he is making. You can follow the repair on Fazebook.

I just stumbled across this thread and I am the one that bought the NTV out of Havasu Az. For all the guys that say the boat is inferior because Jack did not build it I ask why ? Are you saying Peter at skater could not build any other quality boat than a Skater ? I would think you could give him any good set of molds and he could build an outstanding boat . I do not personally know Jack but I have never heard but good things about him and his STVs but he is not the inventor or brain behind the STV he bought a name and molds and continued building a great boat . As far as my NTV the molds are not lightning molds I was told by Mike Nass that he purchased mold and redid them himself and these are the molds my boat came from. There are things about this hull I liked , I like the way Nass took the indention out of the top deck and removed the steps off the rear . To me its just cleaner and streamlined that's my personal opinion. I love the colors on the boat and the fact that its different than every other River Rocket out there . As far as build quality I have seen up close and in person a lot of STVs and I will gladly put this one up against any of them . I have owned Skaters , Eliminators and numerous Allison's and this boats fit and finish is as good as any of them . The west coast guys are know for there gelcoat work and this boat lives up to that it is absolutely beautiful . I have been from one end to the other in this boat while rigging and the attention to detail is way above average on these type boats . the boat was built by one of the top wast coast builders for JJ Gibbs . I would highly recommend anyone interested in a river rocket to contact JJ . I have just finished rigging the boat and hope to have it on the water soon and see what it does . The bottom is straight and sharp so I see no reason for it not to run as good as it looks . If there is never another one built from these mold I a perfectly fine owning a one off !

I had considered it but did not want to start something that would lead to arguing or bashing of anyone . This seems to be a very sensitive area for some people when it comes to this particular mold .

It looked beautiful in the pics I saw of it when it came out of the mold. Let's see it rigged and shut the naysayers up!

I think if you look at post #42 you will see where I stated that Nass and FTP have legal rights to build STV boats. All the rest .. splish~splash.
For the most part , the bottom is basically the same since inception. Both legal company's have made vast changes , configurations and improvements to the deck's over the years ..
You have a beautiful well built boat. I'm surprised to find that you latched onto the "designer debacle" of a ...
Rather than the praise from those who appreciate the difference ..

Duramax, Not that it matters either way but these deck indentations and removal of the steps off the rear deck you spoke of are not changes made by Mike Nass. They were already like that on the Lightning STV molds he started with. He may have done other changes to the new molds.

I can only go by what I've been told the top deck was retooled by Nass , the bottom is the original Summerford Ski Bottom not a pop or a splash the same mold Summerford used himself . Its my understanding from Nass that no part of this boat is linked to Lightning . As I have said I'm happy with the boat and that's what matters .

Lightnings had the Ski bottom molds that Nass bought. Wether he used them or not i don't know. I would think he used them to build a couple or tool new molds maybe? For the record both of the Lightning stv copies I had were solid/over built and with all composites. One of them had a layer of kevlar in the hull. One was 800 lbs and the other was 650. To my knowledge neither of them have had any structural damage to this day. Red boat has run in the mid 120's and the white one in the low 130 range with 2.5 mercs with sportmaster's. Fit and finish wasn't that of a Summerford or Wally lampkin or Jack Barsh boat though. One of them had a few small air biscuits in the sharp edges of the sponson's fresh out of the molds that had to be addressed which wasn't a big deal because I planned and did have it custom painted. The red one and the white one on the left were mine.

I cant argue one way or another , all I can say is I was told by the two people that owned the molds that the bottom mold is the original mold straight from Summerford. You say its not they say it is , I have no way to prove either way . the boat I have has a Ski bottom that's all I know for sure.

Im not meaning to sound argumentative at all. Im also not saying they dont have a mold straight from summerford they used making your boat. I would not know what they used to make your boat or where the ski bottom mold came from they used to make your hull, im saying just that the lightning molds Nass purchased from LPB were the ski bottom and the changes to the deck you mentioned were that way in the lightning molds. Peace brother
