Never had a 2.4bridgeport but I've had a few 2.5 bridgeports and they run very well!

Worlds fastest outboard is a OMC 10,000 RPM
The worlds FASTEST OUTBOARD MOTOR is an EVINRUDE V8. Running at close to 10000rpm with a overdrive gearcase this incredible motor powered a 20' 3 point hydroplane to a 2 way average of 176.556mph. During testing it easily exceeded 190mph but was damaged after hitting an object in the water.Dec 26, 2010

Uncle Dave .. from Uncle BBQ's side of the family ..

There were many 2-cycles built using a "bridged exhaust port" . I quoted the Hodaka manual . The fast OMC's I've seen had this modification done as well as the little oil hole ..
The OMC's .. yea ~ no they weren't done with a small wetstone .. They were done with a big ...

The Merc Bridgeports .. are there any left .. ?

The brief history that I know about them is , that they were 3 3/8ths" bore.

They came from the factory with :

5 cylinders that were plated with industrial chrome.

1 cylinder that had a random steel sleeve ... sometimes more ..

Now ifin the block didn't have the little clearance deal done "before" it was plated, chances are pretty good that it became a member of the "soon to be extinct" club ..

I still have a 2.4 Bridgeport, original plating and no cracked bridges. Pistons have a relief machined in them, the original Mahle pistons were like that, as the Merc replacement Wiseco's. Steel bore motor your suggestion would be a smart move.

    Uncle Dave ...
Just in case ya haven't heard , OMC built the ..

I have no doubt you have a pristine 2.4L in your collection ..

I just never seen one ..

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Power .. Your boy Bobby Worthead has done more to **** block water based record attempts than any left~wing group of people could ever hope for ..

You happen to know what size jets they had in "the hammer" .. ?

Long , high internal capacity , single end fed , spray bar systems have poor distribution characteristics .
Why wasn't the boat ever run again .. who has the motor ?
I got a canole' that says they hurt it .. kept it quiet .. locked the books , and quit

Behind the liner porting on the 2.5 was better, no more finicky bridge, more power, less stuck pistons...
