I have a few different mandrels I made up. Some are close to pin diameter and a couple are for used pistons that still have the clip in one side. My build room is air-conditioned, so I don't really need to do the fridge/freezer thing. I just lay the needles out in a little plastic tray (sushi lid I think it is) with marks on it for 34 needles (3.0L).
(Pro is good for sending the correct amount - The Mother ship, not so much)
Anyway, roll a smear of vaseline on the fake pin/mandrel, then roll it over the bearings, maybe adjust a couple to make sure their straight , and slide the real pin in and the dummy falls out the far side, clip, ... Next one
Any worries about "melt time" can be put to rest by taking a tub or finger full and putting it out in the Florida sun. Make that put it on a piece of black aluminum and put it in the sun ...Actually, you can put down a blob, pour two-stroke oil, four- stroke oil, marvel mystery oil, 90/140 gear oil, ATF, and it will mix right in. I've used it in shorty glides that have went 220MPH on the first lick, didn't make them slip or grab any different than using trans-gel during assembly.
No capt. trans-gel is not .....LMAO
I like Vasoline because I'm old, my eyes and fingers don't work like they use to.Little chance of dropping a needle. Having a needle drop one end a bit, catching the pin coming thru and getting pushed out, fall between the cracks on the bench and wind up with 5 rods with 34 pins and 1 with 33 ... There might be cleaner, quicker, more accurate, ways of doing it .. but this way works best for me ...

A lot of assembly lube are for pressurized 4 stroke oil systems. And dry starts in the oil pump system.
the two stroke is wet from the start. No fancy lube needed while you wait for oil to get primed and circulation.
just some petroleum here and there. Even lube fuel filter o rings in the new vst with it.

I use 2 stroke oil on bearings and WD40 on the piston and rings. I like the cylinder, piston and rings to be as close to dry as possible. Once the engine fires it has oil and gas on the piston, rings and cylinder. When I raced MX I would put the piston and ring in the cylinder after using contact cleaner to clean to clean the bore and piston. Just a little 2stroke oil on the bearings.
