I found out the other day that Fastenal will do “store to store” transfers for a reasonable fee. Just need to bring the crate to your nearest Fastenal and as long as your builder has one close to him, they’ll transfer it between branches. Might be a thought.

Might want to look into Fastenall third party shipping. If your builder is willing to work with you. You bring your pallet to your local Fastenall and they ship it within their in-house network of trucks to whatever location is closest to your builder. The catch is that he would have to go there and pick it up. I haven't personally done it, but have heard its much cheaper than other fright shipping options. It's a popular option on some vintage John Deere forums.

https://www.fastenal.com/en/22/3pl-t...arty-logistics click the shipping request form.

Edit: Didn't see the above post when I posted this.

    So... to avoid further confusion...

I already sent my 40hp carb'ed Yamaha 2-stroke (one of the lightest motors ever made) via Fedex Ground. Even in a way overbuilt crate, it was 90lbs all up. Fedex and UPS both have a limit of 150 lbs for regular non-freight ground shipping.

What I am asking about here is, I have a 2.0l Merc 150 that I will need to send off at some point. And it will not weigh less than 150. Or at least I can't imagine that it will. So this is what I was asking about.

That said, I will contact my engine guy (well known SandF'er) about his freight options for me. That definitely seems like the best place to start. And take it from there.

With all the various ideas being thrown, I see now that freight isn't just a cut and dried situation.

As far as UPS/Fed Ex freight... You can take your crate to the local freight hub (assuming you have one) and ship/ receive from there. Some paperwork in the office and they load/ unload at a back dock to your pickup with a forklift. Much cheaper than door 2 door freight if I remember correctly from last year. Make your crate + engine hold downs inside nuke proof....

I've used Go Ship in the past and I got this pallet from Tn to Ca at a estimated weight of 500lbs for around 225.
I believe its more about the space vs weight.

I just got 2 long-block mercruisers shipped from Florida to Rhode Island for $175 ! paperwork said 700 lbs total, 2 pallets.
Had to pick them up at the UPS freight office, which was a 40 minute drive away from me, but worth it.

The paperwork was GlobalTranz but the carrier was Forward Air which shipped through UPS freight.
