Spammers are trying very, VERY hard!
With the massive increase in site-wide traffic this year also came all of the spammers that are trying to register to the site so they can sell their counterfeit handbags, shoes, or whatever. Below are screenshots of the registrants for just one day. Several times a day I have to weed these out and activate the legitimate registrations. Also, these spam registrations are deleted and their email address is banned. I delete those spammer registrations so that they will not artificially inflate our membership count.
Spammers are usually fairly easy to spot, especially the registrations that were created by automated systems. Looks like fun, right?

Dang, and I thought the 3 or 4 per day spam phone calls on my cell phone were a PIA. Sorry you have to deal with all that.

Yeah i was admin on a large diesel performance site until the sold and it was a never ending battle. I feel you pain. Good job though and keep it up.

One clever process on a group I joined was you had to get validated by another user that knew you
but that stops newbies that dont know anyone
