So called Bob's to see about getting a cone installed , ask them what it would cost for coning a 200 case and torqtab and notched for cutdown clamp, answer was 575 ship it to us with a note and we'll get you a price, they should know what it cost, anybody got a sporty case or bigbearing comes case for sale

They want to see if it is a good case or not first I would think. I am betting over the years they have seen some real gems come in the door that were junk. Just a guess.

Really? Damn! What about steckbuar? (spelling) Did he do just xr6 sportmaster gut conversions or cones too? Ive never seen a Bobs last very long before they start peeling apart. Maybe they've upped their game? Bobs has great jack plates etc but I wasn't very impressed with one I had done and many ive seen through the years.

I think he has been done for a long while. I agree, bobs aren't the quality of JC/titus/tooter etc. We threw a pinion through the side of a big bearing HP guts 200 JC case, welded it up, and still runs like an ape. I've seen Jason Wolf (spelling?) has been making cases that are supposedly pretty good. I would definitely check with bobs to see if they weld their cones on before purchasing, the epoxy only is junk IMO. I think we are beginning to get to a generational turnover where at lot of the knowledge from the 90's and early 2000's is being lost as guys get out of the HP scene (and as 2.5 stuff becomes more rare). Most guys you see these days are just running stock 200 cases with production gears and shafts without any care for longevity or knowledge of some of the mods from the past. Luckily a lot of that stuff can still be found in the archives of s&f for young guys like me.

I should mention I just googled JC's prop shop and it still pops up, so if anyone is looking maybe give em a call and find out! They make great cases.

Bob’s used to weld 1/2” long tacks in about six places and then use filler but that was thirty years ago!

I have a Bob’s coned case that was done 25 or so years ago and it’s held up nicely. It’s not real pretty anymore but that’s no reflection of the work that was done. There’s no chipping/flaking/peeling/cracking from Bob’s work.

I haven’t seen one that Bob’s has done recently...

I have a Bob's 200 case from 1991, I am assuming they did it as there was a little sticker from them on the side.. I redid the epoxy as it was old and cracking. As was said above, 3 welds about 1/2" long on each side.

Their customer service for me has always been great. I imagine those nose cone jobs are't their favorite. Probably more money made making Jackplates. Luckily they still offer it

Well I guess they are the only game in town then so to speak. I know a few great welders luckily so if i ever need on done again it wont be much of a problem if I buy the cone from Bob's. The last one they did for me came apart the first time out. Cone didn't fall off but some of the filler did. Looked like schit and needed fixed multiple times after that. Wasn't happy at all. That's when they were in Ruskin.
