They have run them on a bunch of boats. Twin engine center consoles to small cats. They h w been able to go up 3-4” of pitch with the supercharged installed. Gause has one on his 26 and it’s already faster then the v8 350hp they ran on one. He has already blown one Gearcase in a short amount of time.

I agree with h2operf. Merc realized long ago that the prop shaft is a weak point so they increased the size, and that was at 300 hp. At 350-400, they realized the LU internals are the weak point and saw no other way to address the issue than to increase the diameter even if there was a drag penalty, necessitating high running heights. The Yamaha LU is way behind in the water inlet location, shaft size, and gear/clutch size. I don't think it can be reliable long term, and that's just the part I know about.

Call it what you want, its curvature in the deck to hold the air when the boat is running at its correct attitude.
You can see the changes that I made in this boat based on Doug's showing me the large "dead" spot in the deck. This boat still handled exceptionally well at speed. But with the big tunnel, wide sponsons, and the fact that I will have my family in it, I wanted to make it as good as it could be. The deck was actually raised just under 6 inches to get the shape I wanted and there are no more areas that don't hold air. I feel a lot better after doing this knowing that with the potentially upcoming motor options this hull will be capable of running in the 120s.

I don't think its so much negativity.. more like reality. I'm not a big merc guru i have all rudes and know what it takes to make a fishin motor into a race motor..Yamaha makes a killer product no doubt butttt..to make something that's gonna SAFELY holdup to wot for miles of constant pounding/overrev in and out of the water is not a simple addition to HP... Merc, the only one making anything that ever fit that role has proven what it takes to make it happen...like was said above they didn't make steel/chrome fat shafts and steel drive shafts just because, failures showed what needed to be done, the 3L sportmasters they already had were not sufficient so they went to the 544 dia case ,stock 3 ram trims don't work well on offshore apps. neither do soft rubber mounts .. Just an observation, I applaud any advancements in the sport but you have to do it all if its going to make the cut..Dave

I think the engine combo is awesome. I'm curious to see what more testing results in. Seems hard to believe that a stock case is handling 450hp over hours of use.
From what I understand, their claims of 750hp were basically saying the supercharger can flow that much air. I seriously doubt you strap a super on a 4.2L V6 and go from making 200hp to 750.

Doubling output of p.head is way different than making it live in extreme conditions andddddd, mid section, gear case, motor mounts, cooling system, etc, etc.....
Bolt one on a 22' Velocity and pay a guy to try and break 8 hrs a day, 5 days a wk like Merc (and OMC) did.
Anyone remember some of Land and Seas projects that they sold as proven products

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

What did you do for counter rotation on the Vmax? Can you provide a link where the super chargers were purchased.

You have about 3 options.
1. The vmax lower can be converted to counter-rotation, but it requires someone who really knows what they're doing.
2. Use the non-vmax lower units, shorten the driveshafts, and add cones. This is what I did.
3. Sportmaster conversions.
