From what I read they can get 700hp out of that supercharger. But 450 is conservative.

Vmax SHO is 505 lbs + supercharger adds 55 lbs, Bob Cruse is putting 2 of them on a 25 Talon. Should be a rocket.

Outboard stuff is about to get really fast. You will soon be able to approach 150 with outboard power which is really cool but it will be very dangerous. The speeds that we will be seeing have only been run in boats that weigh almost twice as much and are way more planted then our stuff. The acceleration will be nuts but you will have to be nuts to run the big numbers in a light weight outboard (JMO).

It is not just about weight, but about aerodynamics, like in cars. How many hulls generate downforce to stay planted? I think STVs do.

I have experience of other boats where the bow wants to fly away, and top speed is reached fully trimmed in with a cleaver, or with 2 fat guys up front to keep it down.

Maybe they want to see the Nizmo folks prove that their product works first.

What kinda boats/water conditions have they been running and testing on? Everything changes when the boats coming out of the water loading and unloading the engine/gearcase ect...Slapping on a supercharger makes big dyno numbers but thats not all there is to a true High performance outboard package... mother merc just pulled a new v8 out of the hat and you know where they will go with that in the near future...

I completely agree with you Joe. That's why no matter how much HP the outboards end up being that get hung off the back of my 30 in time, I won't prop it to run over 130 or so. Even with big blocks in the bilge of my 30, once I started running North of 140, the boat got light feeling (it weighed 7,000#s dry). At only 5,000#s dry, and the weight of the motors hanging off the transom instead of in the bilge, my 30 will feel even lighter at speeds less than that. You see that MTI already filled the notch and are mounting the motors on the transom instead of brackets on their newest 340X cats. As for these new Yamaha motors, they have to prove themselves first imo. Are they really making the power the aftermarket supercharger company is claiming? Is the gearcase efficient at high speeds? will the transom assembly/tuner section/mid/lower hold up to the abuse the larger cats put them through? This older DW30 raceboat should be a good platform for testing, so the results will be valid - whatever they are, and if they are truthful!

There have been very few boats ever tested in a wind tunnel. I know that John Kosker "Mystic powerboats" has done some testing on a scaled down model but the rest of it is educated guessing. We have a wind tunnel at our local aeronautical university and its very pricey to gain access. Doug Wright has extensive knowledge of aero design and efficiency from the aircraft building and design that he has been involved in. He is the one that called my LCB a death ride the first time that I showed it to him. A boat deck needs to grab air at the front and have it stay connected until it breaks off where you want. If you look at an STV, Skater, Doug Wright, and several others, you will see the "bow" shape in the deck from the bow to the transom so that the deck can "hold air". On other boats that don't have this shape, you can have sand on the deck and it won't move or just swirl at 90 mph in its "no pressure areas". I had this proven to me first hand with Doug and that is why I spent so much time changing my boats design. Now I am afraid that it will become very apparent which boats don't have the proper down force and its not going to be only tunnel hulls.
