We do what we gotta do.

When my chocolate lab, Slick Willy (named after B.Clinton) started getting week at 14 yrs old, he couldnt stand up on our tile floors.
My wife and best friend wouldnt accept this and after searching on-line, found doggy tennis shoes for just this issue.

They looked like high top Converse All Stars! They enabled him to walk on his own and bought him a few more months.
He hated them and you could hear him clomping down the hall into the living room where he would stop and give us the stink eye

He was my best friend an went every where w/me. I cherish the pixs and memories I still have.

After I had him put down, I gave his shoes to an assistant at our vets office who was going through the same thing w/her dog.

Yes sir. We have rubber mats, rubber booties and a hind leg wheel chair we will pass along to others. I would rub his back legs with antibiotic ointment and wrap them in socks because he kept them raw dragging them around. He always tried to walk when I was with him but if I turned my head he would drag his legs. Dam he was something in his prime. Seems like he was a pup until 10 years old then the problems hit fast. Never sick a day in his life.

Look at it the other way. Just think of the stories he is telling his new buddies in doggie heaven about you and the things you did together.

Guys I thought holding my dog as he went lifeless at the end of a syringe was tough until today. My son had a serious car wreck on 01/07 this year. Three broken cervical vertebrae, 3 broken thoracic vertebrae, broken collarbone, broken sinus cavities, broken jaw and broken orbital socket. In addition to that he was not found in the wreckage for 1-1/2 hours and had to be revived at the scene and twice before arriving at the trauma center on Med -Flight. He has a traumatic brain injury as a result. He had an old American bulldog that had laid at his side through his healing process. The dog became sick last week and I held my son today while he held that dog as the vet put him down. He was a rescue dog. Big teddy bear. I had no words except to tell my son he gave him a great life while he was his caretaker and the dog had done his job. My son is walking and talking and beginning physical therapy. Rascal.....you were a good boy.

Dave Hensley, I'll say prayers for your son and you.

I've been thinking about getting a dog. I haven't gotten one because I'm not sure with my health issues if I could give it proper exercise. Been researching it and I think I can find ways to do that. I had a big ol 15 lb. cat for 12 years, until it died, because I didn't think I could give a dog the exercise they need. I love animals but a cat is no substitute for a dog. They are great at killing mice though.

The best memory I have of that cat was when he was a kitten. I heard a noise and wish I'd had a camera handy. He had jumped off the back of a chair under a stuffed ram I have hanging on the wall and was hanging off that ram, with an oh chit look on his face, with both front paws clawing into the rams neck. Kinda look like he was trying to take it down for the kill, haha.

Thanks guys. Losing the dog was tough....the timing was just so bad. My son is healing but his injuries were so bad that even getting medications off a little can impact him for days.
