Or he'll kill himself/other people trying. The last days of my boat had 125 pounds of sand in front of my feet and still would run until nothing touched the water but the gearcase, I gave it to a 16 y/o kid and his dad with a 140 inline and feel much better about things.

Wilber Weeks ran 117 in a Vector in the 70's.

    Ed, that is insane......
Tell him to be very careful, it is not worth it. Things happen real quick!!
IMPO, Not the boat to be running those speeds......

Ill bet that SSM hepled with stability over 100 as there would be no need for a larger gearcase for lift on such a small hull with so much power. That looks like an awesome setup!!

Tim Thibodaux shard this on Face Book.
His dad Gene was driving. The boat was own by Bill Holland.
I thought this was a cool pic as the aero package reminds me of what I have done with my Vector.Click image for larger version.

This is the bottom mod to make the boat turn flatter. I want to try it on my Viper. Did you run this on the vector or still in the process?

Getting close to finishing it up now. Should be ready by the first of next year.
The mod I did was with aero in mind. I spent some time thinking about it and came up with this air spoiler set up.
The wedges will only be in the water on take off or slow speed cornering. When up at speed thy will be a aero component to the setup.

Tim, you are correct. The 103 was run with a 1to1 speedy 10x17 turning in the 6900 to 7000 range. At the time it was a stock 79 2.4 offshore "vertical reed".After a land and sea drag pack mod,225 front, and OMC big bores,It consistently would turn 74/7500 Never did get a MPH at top rpm.Roger was well into the 90s with a 1500 style sportsman lower, with a L&S plastic cone, and the top two or three water inlets plugged.

Most excellent, Bob... yes, we used that L&S horizontal front half on a guys 2.4 200 vertical and it made a huge difference with a different tuner. The big gripe about putting a different front half on them back then was that the block and front half were line bored mains at the factory as an assembly. We checked it with a piece of machined round stock during mock up assembly and it was perfect!... seems Merc was just trying to discourage that, or so it seemed.
I thought Roger had mentioned way back he was getting around 92-93 flat out and around 88 in the 1/4... we built an inline 1500 case using a V6 shaft and 2:1 gears for class racing, too. Bondo'd the side pick up location and contoured some channels from the top of the bullet area directing water to the what would be the lower third of the stock pick up area...if that makes sense. I guess our 2.4's were different...mine came from Oshkosh with horizontal reed layout, fiberglass reeds, lightweight flywheel, etc. We did change mids to quiet it down at low speeds on the lake, but did cut side slots just above cav plate and blocked
off the thru hub deal. My neighbors hated that boat.

Hey Dave...you gonna have that deal wet before 2020?... engine was looking good in the last photos I saw. How's the project coming, anyway?
No, my Vector was set up as a lake and drag racer. Ron Baker did my bottoms while at HS. Filled the concave, moved the wedge transition a bit forward and blueprinted pad and paralleled the area just outboard of the pad, and minor wing tweak. A Vector will not work without some wedge in the pad, and makes for a very dangerous deal. If the Vector running surfaces are done just right, it's an animal out of the hole and will nail a Viking by 3-4 boat lengths in 60'. The extra lift strakes and a bit more dead rise help, too.

I ran 104 and change with mine. Mod 2.5 245 15" 1.87's coned 200 case center steer. The boat was amazingly stable once it got on the pad. I did puff it up once and it was enough for me.

I got the duel cable steering setup just about done. Doing the last dry fit and check on rigging now.
Waiting on a set of Geiger Tech heads to show up to finish the eng.
Should be ready to paint here soon.
I left the wedge in the secondary pad and put a 3deg V in the main pad tapering to the front. no flat part any where in my pad.
It should be ready on it's 3 year anniversary of the start of work. River ranch in the spring.
    That's if the $$$ holds out.......LOL

Had a reply all orchestrated and this ****ty site crashed again. When are the SnF IT clowns going to realize they can't jam all of their crap down a small pipe?... too much server load for the cheap ass, flimsy servers. They need to spend some of that ad money on upgrades instead of pouring it into their personal boat programs. Typical performance boaters!

It's not our internet. Or our gear. It's this SnF site. Period.
