    2 stroke oil options

I've been using Mercury Marine Premium Plus two stroke oil for the past 15 years in my 1985 200 Merc/Charger DL. I was wondering if there are any other comparable options (less expensive) out there other than the Mercury brand. I'm assuming that Mercury doesn't make their own oil and that it is private labeled. The pricing up here in Canada for Mercury branded oil is nuts.

Hi Frank, My boat stays in Haliburton, Ontario. Sounds like Penzoil is another option.

Spend the extra $ get the good oil. Royal Purple has a super oil. Alisyn even better.

you guys think your prices for mercury premium plus is high ha ha ha

over here we can get mercury premium plus for around £41 sterling per us gallon..
that is $82 Canadian and $60 dollars united states..
yep that's right, and you think you get it rammed up you over there. (we get it rammed up us and then twisted and shoved up a touch further.)

you can buy cheaper oil , but do you want to also be buying and fitting the parts that will be needed when it breaks down ?
Surely 15 years on the motor tells you the oil is very good . and worth every penny it costs.

my next purchase is going to be mercury premium plus, even though its expensive.

seems to me that most people who use the fully synthetic are those who purely race and those who tear down the motors a lot.
And anyone running at 100 to 1 like some brands claim is nuts.

When we did a lot of tests, Helmut used Alisyn ProPower extensively and has always been absolutely rock solid. That's really the only oil I would use.

I posted the data sheets on Amsoil vs RP on another thread , Royal Purple is a better oil , higher flash, less friction , less heat more power, Synerlec . Amsoils smokes less at the dock.
