Baseboard heat is a pig on kwh. I can spin the meter off he wall . I can do 300 kwh in a weekend no problem. Maybe you had a bypass feed to the hot water take before the meter switch and then they hooked you up .

Oh , gas hot water and heat. GO through the box and see what's drawing. Phantom power suckers like new HD TV pull 15W when off , computers on standby , stereo amps left on, plug in CO detectors , if you have enough they can add up to a couple or more amps running 24 /7 .

Some of the old dial meters couldn't read the real low amp draw , so I was told. Not sure if that is accurate . Hit the thing with a bat and call them to come and replace it.

Agree! That's the equivalent of leaving a 500 watt quartz light on for a month. Did you put one in the Stoker to keep it warm?

They probably don't read the meter every month, so for most months they estimate consumption based on past usage.

Then they drove by and read the meter this month, and it turned out their estimates were too low. The additional 400 kWh may be 400 kWh over 6 months, i.e. 67 kWh per month.

Past bills will tell you if they estimated. My National Grid bill even shows monthly usage for the past year. They read mine every month.

Get a note pad and count your kWh use on a daily , hourly for a week. Then smash it with a bat and get a new one.

Our meters here phone home and are exact every month. I thought all power companies do that now and I live out in the sticks. It used to use my land line, now it does it some other way since we don't have a land line. Meter readers used to come but I have a gate on my driveway and live on a mountain so they can't get in. That is why they installed the kind that does not need a reader each month to begin with. Surely NC in the country is not that more advanced than everywhere else.
