Thread: 21 Skater Speed Estimate

I've been in some nasty water with risco in his 21 and it's surprising how good it rides. I've been in 21 sob and I think it would be hard to run with one. If it got big Id rather the vee but if it's that big any 21 ft boat should be on the trailer.
We are building a few transom pickups for the 3 cats we now have local and I think there's 5-8mph in the 21/Etec. The prop that's on it looks like it got run over by a forklift and he's still got 15psi to the case all the fast 21 went fastest with transom pickups becaise the case had 0psi.

What does the 15 inch mid do for the 21???

It didn't do anything for speed, where I noticed the difference most is trying to run fast in a sideways chop, boat doesn't teeter as much, but I wouldn't spend 4k $ , as it didn't do that much. I built a hull pickup for mine, and am getting ready to do 2 more for the other 21's I work on, that was well worth doing, and the gains would be way better than the 15 mid

Mike you can't compare the two the skater is increadable all you need is a on off switch point and go the only thing is when it bits you there is no sign my 21 was sold to a world champion boat racer it ended up upside down then it was sold to another boat racer he blew it over and lives with a rod In his leg both local guys

The hull pickup is for raising the motor up higher for more speed and keeping water pressure?

Exactly. Unsure about the skaters getting blown over and rolled, etc, but honestly, it could happen in anything, stv's can blow over, Allison boats make hi speed u turns but yet everyone still owns them, it is a matter I think of less risk vs more risk depending on type of boat and speed, and learning how to drive any boat before pushing it to the limit, every boat has its quirks.

Im not saying they all do, but they all can, my point was they give no sign, at all, they put you in a comfort zone that will fool you........... but you so right about learning the quirks, but I wouldnt consider making a high speed u turn in a 21 skater, just speaking from my experience with them

BE CAREFUL!
I blew my 24 over and I would never blame the boat.....
It was a very, very foolish driving/trimming mistake made by ME!.....
Unfortunately it could it happens to the best.
All I can suggest from personal experience after owning a couple 21's is absolutely be careful, respect it and take your time to learn the do's and dont's because they will give you a false sense of security that will or can get you in trouble!!!
Frank, take your time and be safe buddy.......
PS; Dirk relearning to drive a pad 21 hard and high is a trip for ME now....

i've been as fast as 112 in mine, after a bunch of work by leading edge to a 32 pro et, broke the prop shaft and lost that prop, i'm currently running 110 with a litely modified 32 with 1.62 gears on the limiter at 7100, biggest issue on mine is getting a big enough prop that the boat likes. here's a pic from the suwanee run. you can't beat the ride of the 21 for its size in rough water. i couldn't even imagine having a 2.5 on the boat, acceleration would be terrible.
