    Jasper Fuel Questions

So I have a question? Who else bought Gas from the gas truck sat. morning? I learned tonight that I also failed the fuel test in Jasper. We bought five gallons of fuel friday and five on saturday. Ran threw 4 gallons on friday for testing and then bought fuel sat. morning and used most of the rest throughout Saturday and Sunday. Out of the roughly 30 boats that got fuel tested "top 5 in each class" 8 failed for fuel. That is nearly a 1/3 of all the racers. We stayed far away from the race site at a remote cabin and during the racing saturday and sunday myself or my wife was always by the boat so our fuel wasn't tainted by anyone else. We used a new 3 gallon fuel cell, new fuel filter and only used the gas trucks gas. As a new racer i'm just wondering who else bought fuel saturday morning because that is the only X factor that we had no control over.

Sunoco does sell 112 oxygenated and 112 non-oxygenated as far as I can remember but not 100% sure. I'm not pointing any fingers but you did take enough measures in changing filters and using a new tank to avoid this so only possibility would be bad fuel. In 2007 they DQ'd Dave Bush for bad fuel too and he flush his system and I think they did change filters but the fuel test still picked up something but he ran Pro Fuel and Pro Gas so one fuel is allowed and the other wasn't.

I think if everyone that got DQ'd should come together and try to get an answer on it, clearly there had to be bad fuel with that amount of ppl being DQ'd for bad fuel.
But knowing how those things works nothing will probably come of it or no explanation giving.

well i think it should be a re-evaluation on testing or something giving a false positive reading for sure. I didn't spend the kind of $$ i did to be known as a cheater or anything like that or drive 26 hours round trip. it is something that should be looked at for future events though.

6 boats were in my class, RIVER RACER 3 failed fuel evidently..... we had ours tested both days as well but failed sunday and passed saturday... and we literally changed nothing, nobody tampered with anything or otherwise.

I would be curious to see what was really in the fuel to make it fail, was it the same in all???

This might be a silly question.......but do they test the fuel that's in the truck before it dispenses any fuel to the racers? Not each time, but perhaps early that morning? Or is it just assumed that the fuel in the truck is valid? And compliant?

I am not a racer nor do I work for anyone racing. That being said I am certain that anytime you have a group of people coming together in a competitive event, you're going to encounter someone willing to cheat. I find it very odd that so many people were found to have 'tainted' fuel and disqualified for it. I remember a pretty angry post about some racer(s) last year that were disqualified for bad fuel as well.

I think (not that what I think means a hill of beans) that if they are going to DQ for bad fuel then there should be some way of determining WHY the fuel is DQ'ed. Does it have an additive or can absorbing moisture from the air really make the fuel fall out of the range of 'legal' fuel? If absorbing moisture from the air can throw the fuel into an 'illegal' state then surely there are some 'reasonable' actions that could be taken to prevent such an unreasonable DQ for something that is out of anyone's control.

As I said, I am not a racer nor do I work for anyone racing. I am simply intrigued by the recurrence of disqualified racers for illegal fuel again. I hear nothing all year about it, then Jasper come and again people are disqualified for illegal fuel.

Thet pull their standard from the truck the morning of the race. They aren't checking fuel to see what it is, just that it matches the standard that they drew from the truck

There simply isn't the money involved here to try to determine what's in the fuel. Just has to match the standard
