We had a great time!
I must say, as a tax payer, I was disappointed to see the waste of revenue today. At least the guys were cool and simply spectated so far as I could see. But really?!? There was more police presence than July 4th and for how many boats... I would guess less than 100?
The snow added a little extra to the day!
Thanks again.Last edited by hotdaddy27; 10-18-2015 at 07:50 PM.

Didn't make it very far
Looks like I missed another great CT River Run.
Had some electrical issues and needed Sea Tow to drag my back...
Oh well, all fixed and winterized now...
See you all back out on the water in 2016...

10-19-2015, 08:06 AM #114I want to extend my personal thanks to all who attended. In particular I want to thank the police and Encon officers who had to work and freeze their butts off, and for the latitude they extended the attendees who may have been slightly above the speed limit. Yesterday demonstrated that we can coexist without incident and we can maintain a good relationship with local residents and law enforcement.
The results were exactly as I'd hoped they would be

Rich, thank you very much, we all also had a great time!
As stated above, the police presence was way, way, way over-the-top! And it wasn't just near pizza beach, it was everywhere. What a waste of tax payer money!!!
Whoever the idiots were that made the stink about folks disregarding no wake zones and general misconduct last year COMPLETELY blew things out of proportion. Yes a few guys might have cheated a no wake zone (which isn't condoned), but in general everyone was very well behaved and I can't imagine any real harm was done. Let's be honest, with the exception of the few big cruisers that attend, most of the boats throw hardly any wake at higher speeds anyway, including the big offshore go fast boats. Far less than a cruiser idling (plowing) through. But again, it's still not acceptable and it's more about the poor perception folks might get from the misconduct, which I don't think anyone wants.
Regardless, the police response and presence this year to the rumored misbehavior was extremely excessive. Not only was it a huge waste of tax payer money, but honestly I'm sure it kept a LOT of people from coming out, and I don't blame them. Who wants to run 25mph through the river and worry about being harassed? In all fairness the LEO's were all more than cool with everyone (thanks guys!), but I personally know a lot of people didn't attend because of the warnings of police presence this year... And it's understandable. We counted 56 boats around 1:30. Maybe a third or less of what we had last year? I know the cool weather kept some people home as well (and I don't think this turned out to be much of an issue either), but the threat of extreme LEO pressure certainly kept a lot of people home as well.
Hopefully things return to normal next year, for everyone's sake... Including for the charity!
Thanks again Rich and crew for everything. Despite the swarming po-po and the cool temps, we still had a great time! Hopefully some decent money was raised as well!

No it was not blown out of proportion. That is if you think 60+ going though the two miles of the Middletown zone by multiple boats and being observed by many as well as officers taking pictures is proper. That was just one case of many.
There were problems last year and this year a statement was made.
I could not get there to play this year but intend to again next year and if the police are on the water, so be it. Was I perfect at every no wake last year? No I wasn't, I went by an empty dock on plane. But there were many documented doing wrong at many areas on the river, there are pictures posted from last year with boats on plane blasting through a group in front of a populated marina. To me that is wrong.
Lets not ruin all that Rich works for.Regards,
Charlie North

I have to agree with BOSS -
It was our first time doing this - besides the frigis temps - the River was gorgeous but the 5mph zones were annoying and my boats wake was much less than the windy conditions.
I don't know what transpired last year but but the police presence seemed excessive but at least everyone was on their best behavior.
I would have loved to see some fly by's at Pizza beach - there were some real nice boats there!

I know I never went above the speed limit. I went by a Police boat which seemed to create a GPS anomaly(I think it was his flashing light that caused it)

When you came right down to it, we really weren't sure what to expect. The party needed to take place to find out, and I would have preferred full participation . If anyone is that illegal or unrestrained or out of control that they stayed away, then maybe we don't need them anyway.Living in the Freedom provided by Bud Conner and his fellow warriors.
