You need to set the plate on the trailer and go run it without adjusting it. Go 8-9 inches from center of propshaft to bottom of the centertoon.

Will do, BUT why is the 8-9 so magical (or important???)

Im just telling that is the height of two tritoons that are performing well. Use it as a reference or starting point. These boats dont blow out. The one 24ft crestliner breaks 50 consistantly with a 250 verado. This is good real world feedback. Sounds like you have no idea what height your running at. You just keep trimming and raising the motor. Set the height on the trailer and go out and run just using the trim. Dont touch the jackplate. See what it does. Just my opinion since you asked.

These are dealer setup boats. No jackplates.

@jim_pat, what kind of toon do you have. I assume a tri-toon ? Do you also have a jack plate or no?? (I assume no since you said its as from the factory??). What type of 22 lab prop do you have? Raker style, cleaver?? 62 MPH is might good on a stock toon with a stock Verado 300.

    Glenn

This is an X250 from Lowe Pontoons. It was entered in the 2013 fall shootout in the stock 25' class. There were only a hand full of boats in this class and won with a speed of 62 radar. Not sure of the name but it was a Merc lab finished 22 3 blade that was used in the run. If you have someone with a 2014 brochure from Lowe this boat is pictured in the catalog on a time run in the shootout. The prop I have on it now is a Tempest 19 3 blade.

@jim_pat, What at kind of speeds are you getting with the Tempest 3 blade?? It's been nasty here this week in chi-town so haven't been out, but will do some runs next week to see what I can wring out of her.

@procomp, you're correct, I have no idea of measurement from center of prop shaft to bottom of center toon but will measure next time I am up at lake. Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it!!

FWIW, there's lots if toons on our lake running into the 60s and 70s, so for some, performance tooning is where it's at right now. Plus the ride across a choppy lake is excellent and the wife doesn't get crabby by being bounced around.

There was a 22 Manato that ran 66 but this was the fishing model with most of the seats (fishing) removed.

I has a 19 on it now and I'm not sure of the part number, If I think about this weekend I will get it and post it. My wife and I were out last weekend.

At the LOTO shootout 2014 a Playcraft Hampton Step Hull Tritoon Pontoon (full interior) 25' w/300hp Verado ran 76mph. It ran way better with the Jackplate than without.

Every Pontoon Mfg. has a different style hull it seems. They look the same but each hull has it's own differences.
Some toons are larger ,some center toons are larger, some have lifting strakes ,some have lifting strakes on some of the toons, and now some have steps ,etc. ,etc.
I was at a meeting two weeks ago that had tritoons with 5 different step hulls, one standard toon hull and one with a deeper center toon.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is each Pontoon Brand has it's own ideal setup that you have to play with yourself. There is no magic bullet. I'm still playing with mine own and I can always improve it.

I'm getting one next week that is 22' with a Bob's Jackplate powered by a Mercury 250hp Pro XS. The last 22' I had the best GPS speed I got out of her was 59.8mph. I have changed the bottom on the new one again and expect to finally have an out of the box real 60mph toon.
BTW the last one ran it's best with an Enertia 22".

@fastoons, I grew up boating on the ICW there and also the Halifax, so it was nice to see you posting here. OB is my parents home.

Thanks for for all the advice. Our season is now over ( too cold) , but the next time I get to FL to see mom, I am going to come by and see you.

Most People look at pontoons from the deck up. You really need to look them from the deck down-
Come over and we can play on the St. Johns River.
