I have a good friend that works as a Product Manager for Lubrizol. My understanding is that they basically own the patent(s) on almost all the additives that go into all the oils, etc. I spoke to him and asked if he could check with his colleague that managed this particular portfolio of products to identify the best stuff for my motor. That PM came back saying that most of the name brand products are good, but the Mercury branded products are actually the best stuff on the market.
I'm sure it's possible that they have better profit margins on these products and he has some bias, but I've been using the Quicksilver and think it works well.

I've been using XLF Pennzoil. Minimal smoke, and makes nice power on my 2.5.

the general concencusis blended for steel bore , full synthetic for crome bore. The Penzoil blend gets great reviews from alot of builders ( Jay Smith for one) and is alot cheaper than the merc oil.

This is my take on it from running a lot of hrs with many motors. Oil inj system hooked up, premium plus merc. Mix your own, EFI and carb, I prefer the XLF penszoil. I have had zero oil related failures in tens of thousands of hours in commercial and recreational use.

Ain't it great to have papa TRUMP back at the helm?
