Forged Pistons on Mercury
Been told not to use forged Pistons on Mercury rebuild ?
just stock motors! Got a 2005 90 and a 2001 200efi
opinions? Thanks

Those days are over. Wiseco clearances the Pistons for the specific bore. I add .002 on 3.854 if it will be turned over 7000. Heat cycles are your friend.

Why bother with forged on a stocker? well over here Kiwi land wiseco pistons are much cheaper that the merc/omc genuine units.

Ive seen the pins falling out of 200 hour factory brp Pistons numerous times. I've used some cast aftermarket that puked pins before breakin was completed these were on box stock engines.
Wiseco pins do not come out and they are a much stronger piston. The only reason people are scared is because years ago you had to add clearance for wisecos and they would stick if you didn't. Now they add the clearance to the piston. On stock rebuilds I don't add any clearance just do a few good heat cycles.Quartershot T-3R 15" 3.5L E-Tec 1.62 Sportmaster

Pro supposedly had a bad run maybe only Omc Pistons were affected I lost 2 pins in one motor then 2 more in another. They knew there was an issue and sent me 4 sleeves 12 Pistons gaskets etc. No charge. Originally Posted by TEXAS20225

I have never had a pin move since I went to wisecos 6 yrs ago about 100 motors so far so good. The factory Etec Pistons are notorious for loose pins and cracking bowls I've never seen a wiseco do either. I guess I just sleep better knowing they have stronger more reliable Pistons .
