Spirit 5.6. I know we have gotten a bit off topic here even though we are still posting about Mids. But in your case. Is the breakage consistent? Meaning in the same area? It may not be a Alloy issue as much as a pattern/mold Flaw. Maybe the area in question simply needs beefing up.

No mate, 3 different places.. The last mid l got, the boys beefed it up in most places. I think the mold what they have for the OMC/MERC is great, this is why l really believe there was a casting issue.. I guess no one will really know what was going on and someone else is going to have to start from scratch.. We need these things and l think we should all come up with a solution to help us all..

So if it were to be done from a billet piece of aluminum what approach would you all suggest.?
I know this is a hard thing to agree on but put up a few ideas.
Compared to all the stuff ive been machining lately a mid is small little piece.
Dago.

The guys down here are talking of it having to be done in 2 pieces and bolted together.. They have the machinery, programs and knowledge to do it, as l mentioned earlier, time is not on their side at the moment, though hoping to have something by this time next year... Check out some of the stuff they have done on their website www.riskyracing.com.au..

remove the need for a lower mount . make the casting so the steering tube mounts in to the can , and leaves more of the lower support in the original clamp . The way it is now you need to cut all side support out of the clamp .

I thought they were 356, a common casting alloy and it can be heat treated to t5 or t6 , i just got some parts from adavnced adapters and they are 356 heat treated to t6 the castings don't look that great either, i can see where they welded up some pits and sanded it smooth. If was to make a new mid it would be generic with a 3l merc lower, the 3.3 g1 brp is on its way out along with the merc 3l , would be wise to start looking at what the verado and etec g2 would need.
