ID:	317465I found this looking through some old boat pics. I remember Don Johnson had his hands full with that Action that day! Anyone old enough like me to remember Miami Vice?

That's a very good episode; season 4, episode 19 - "A Bullet For Crockett". The entire series is on Netflix. What makes it especially cool is that the boat chase scene, like almost all Miami Vice scenes, was shot on-location in Miami. I pass alongside this canal every time I go to the boat show at the Miami Beach Convention Center, and it remains exactly as it did when the show was filmed. The city erected a small fence along the waterway about a year ago, but that's it. Every time I drive there, I think of this show. Below is a map of the actual boat chase route. Where the arrow ends at 23rd Street is where the Bayliner being chased jumps on the street (LOL) and skids across the intersection. The canal scenes show some turns which were shot elsewhere in Miami, but most of it was filmed in that straightaway, including the parts where the boats go under the low bridges.

Of course what everyone dislikes is how the sound of the outboard on both boats was replaced with V8 stern drive sounds. In a few scenes shot in the canals, the footage was very plainly sped up to give the appearance of the boats going much faster. I guess I could understand even that - those canals are very, very narrow. Even funnier that the boat being chased is a Bayliner Cobra with a Force 125. There are some very brief moments in the scene that you can hear the actual outboard motor sound from the Yamaha, most notably under the bridges.

I was on site the day they filmed that episode. I was there with my 19 Action as a back up. Here are a couple of shots. I had a perfect shot of the Bayliner way up in the air above Collins Ave but I can't find it. Notice the roll bar / cage in the boat and the cable securing the engine to the transom. That's really awesome, thanks for posting that. I've never seen those photos before.
Do you know where they got that Action from? It was obviously registered, so did they just rent it from somebody? I wonder what ultimately became of it.

The house that the Action is passing by on Collins Canal in the above image still exists today, however it's painted white.
You can also see the new barrier and fence in the foreground that was added about a year ago. The davits have been added at a later date, however you can still see the outlines of the original concrete bulkhead in their mounts.

If I recall correctly, the boat belonged to a guy that worked for the show. He had a Merc on it. They re-rigged it with a Yamaha just for the show since they had a contract with them.

Thanks for posting this Karl, that's very cool. Those photos are epic. In the photo of the Force engine, you can see the hydraulic trim lines appear disconnected rather than broken. I suppose they did that so the engine would kick up without any restriction? I am betting that Bayliner was cut up after the show. Would be interesting to see how they attached the roll bar - there's not much meat in a Bayliner to securely mount a roll bar where it would actually not rip out in the event of a rollover. Those mid-to-late 80s Bayliners were practically built from paper mache. We all remember the infamous Bayliner "Boat, Motor, Trailer" marketing for these boats.
