Ron Hill/John Schubert also tested the #14 Molinari/Evinrude Starflite SS V4 1632cc cross-flow at OMC Brugge, Belgium before the Paris race 1970.
Looks like its Ron testing.

There was 20 ON class boats with OMC engines (Evinrude/Johnson) in the Paris 6 hour race 1970.
13 ON class boats was powered by Mercury and 2 Carniti powered boats.
Here is the complete entry list for the race.
The #26 ON entry with Carniti power was pretty interesting. In line 6 with cylinder heads.
See last picture.
Mr. Carniti and my friend Angelo Vassena was driving the #26 boat.

Jimbo McConnell/Ted May in the #15 Evinrude Starflite SS powered boat got great attention in the pit with a dummy appropriately wearing a Red Indian battle bonnet in the cockpit.
In the race the unique looking #15 boat crashed out early but the driver was OK.

Attachment 385911 This Cougar was the first picklefork boat that they raced have you noticed how deep the steps are and how far forward the steps are and we have a young Clive Curtis kneeling down on the jetty. After the Earle of Normanton who I think was James Beards brother in law had his serious spin in this boat he never raced circuit boats again but I think you may have known Ros Knot the editor of the water ski and powerboat magazine she did marry the Earle in later years.
This #196 boat with Johnson Stinger V4 power looks similar to the #15 boat Jimbo drove and crashed in Paris 1970.
Thanks Tim Schroer for the picture.

Pretty sure this is a Goatboat. I remember Goat helped me repair my F1-V8 Burgess 1983 before the race in Minneapolis.

GOAT- Bob Nagode. One of Jimbo's 'Goat' boats was for sale awhile back from a buddy of mine. Not sure if he sold it or not.
Looks like I can't link it but the ad is on the boatracingfacts website.
...Outboard racing and selling outboards.

Well I worked for Kenty Sjöholm the Swedish distributor for Carniti in Sweden around 1970. The quality of Carniti outboards was very low and most outboards was used for racing.
Few made it the the finish line. I remember Kenty talking about the in line 6 but I think only two or three engines was ever built.
Later I become a very good friend of Angelo Vassena and he told me many fun stories when he was responsible for Carniti sales-prodution. Carniti more or less closed down late 1973.
The answer is NO..there is none of those 2 or 3 inline 6 from Carniti around.
I have some more info here:

any connection between Carniti and Selva?
I think Selva also the suppiler of Yanmar Sail drives or Volvo, I cant remember which?
I don't think so. Years ago Selva did some work for OMC. Selva was also involved with Seven Marine to develop the transmission for the 627HP outboard.
Today Selva is heavily involved with Yamaha Outboards

It also had that 3 cyl carby race engine in the European class but not emission compliant so it disappeared
Liege 6 hours 1970.
Bob Spalding/Tom Percival the overall winner in a Molinari/Johnson Stinger V4
This is interesting because the top three ON boats was using OMC V-4 power.

After OMC's big win in Paris 6 Hours and Liege 6 Hours 1970..the next big race was Berlin 6 Hours and Jimbo McConnell/Ron Hill drove the #22 Molinari /Evinrude Starflite V4 SS to victory in Berlin.
I don't think you can have a better result..!!..:)

Pretty cool pictures of Alf Bullen and his #6 ON class Evinrude 2 liter V6 SuperStrangler. Not sure if its a cross-flow or looper but my guess is a cross-flow.

Each time there is a photo of the cross flow I have noticed the cowl is like a strangler stripes?
Yes you are right on the Evinrude side powerabout, but the picture is from 1975 and Cees van der Velden used a looper V6 Johnson 2 liter that year in Cardiff.
I just want to be careful so I don't write wrong info. 99.9% sure Alf's V6 is a cross-flow powerhead installed on the older style longer shaft V4 mid section.
This is a Johnson Stinger GP V6 2 liter from 1975 with the new type 12 inch mid section.

Same as CCC?
We would love to see the cowl off
I have seen people argue over what OMC engines was named Evinrude Strangler & Super Strangler and Johnson Stinger & Stinger GP.
Here is the way I remember it.
In the beginning (around 1970) OMC named the racing V4 Evinrude Starflite SS & Johnson Stinger.
Next V4 was Evinrude Strangler/Super Strangler and Johnson Stinger GP.
When OMC introduced the V6 1973/74 they did not have a special name for the early V6. Still Evinrude V6 Super Strangler and Johnson V6 Stinger GP.
I know there was special OMC code name but not on the cowlings.
1976 OMC named the new design OZ class racing V6 Evinrude CCC and Johnson RS.
So Yes there was Evinrude V6 Super Strangler/Johnson V6 Stinger GP
Here is pictures to prove my point:
Cesare Scotti in his Scotti/Evinrude V6 Super Strangler 1974. You can see the Super Strangler name at the rear of the engine cowling.
Cees van der Velden and his Johnson V6 Stinger GP 1975 and the technician Jan at OMC Belgium next to a Johnson V6 Stinger GP 1974 or 75.

the 2.0 and 3.0 looper were project 727 I think
the others must of had numbers as well
I guess the engine cowlings get mixed up sometimes..:)

I think you are right the cowling or decals were different for reach engine type.
Although they all would of had project numbers I guess?
Some didnt get model numbers and I guess they were the ones never sold, like 2.0 xflow and 2.0/3.0 loopers?
I have no idea about the names?
HeeHee..I think it was pretty simple..There was not that many powerheads to deal with but one thing is for sure..There was an Evinrude V6 Super Strangler.:)
Well..I think the only OMC 2 liter looper V6 1975 was using a Johnson Stinger GP cowling. Cees van der Velden winning the World ON title in Cardiff late 1975. See attached picture.
Don't think OMC raced anymore 2 liter looper V6 1975 with an Evinrude Super Strangler cowling.
So my answer is the Evinrude V6 Super Strangler was cross-flow up to 1975 and 1976 OMC named the Evinrude V6 CCC and Johnson V6 was called RS
http://www.screamandfly.com/attachme...8&d=1504878346
http://www.screamandfly.com/attachme...9&d=1504878355
I have done some research and I am not sure anymore if the 2 liter V6 Johnson Stinger GP Cees van der Velden used in Cardiff 1975 (post above) was a looper..If this is the powerhead with Merc carbs Cees used I think its a cross-flow installed on the new CCC/RS mid section..
The 2 liter V6 looper was maybe 1976 or later.
http://www.screamandfly.com/attachme...8&d=1504895819
Correct, there is no connection between Selva and Carniti. The Carniti inline 6's were prototypes and probably 2 of a kind, the design never went into even limited production, just like many of the very rare OMC motors mentioned here.
Selva does most of the casting for nearly all the outboard motors assembled in Europe, regardless of seller. Casting aluminum outboard parts is what they do - just like the industrial casting that Mercury does in Oklahoma. When you are both the best and the least expensive, you get the work.
I never knew anyone had a picture of this engine you are right this is Barry Woods 2.0 crossflow highline engine`Barry brought the Merc carbs and manifold to the 1975 World championship race at Cardiff himself. Ziggy swoppped the carbs before the race onto Barry`s engine but Barry was using Cees old Molinari 16ft sprint boat with the narrow tunnel I thought to myself before the race this highline engine could be a problem on this boat and Barry did manage to barrellroll his outfit` so you are correct Cees was using the 1st 2.0 litre looper.
Thanks Steverino, must stop listening to some people knowing everything but was not in Cardiff 1975. I was there racing SE at the same time and remember how windy, rainy and ruff that weekend was. Cees big ON World win made up for everything. I was so happy as a big OMC supporter.
Here is another big OMC racing supporter.:)
