No gauge showing though, carry handle and lack of fixing holes in the bed plate says portable...but we stopped using 240V for portable lumps years

Must be about now Rich posts the OFF 2017 programme--------just to let you know , I won't be attending that one. Lady of the house has organised a Caribbean cruise lasting two weeks at the start of November .

Never did get any props from the RC guy-------need to find some in a hurry, twenty three needed urgently---------I got twelve "Concepts". featuring prop less race boats including a triple and several twin engined rigs.
May have to bite the bullet and buy some, but that comes hard to someone as "Thrifty" as me !
$500 + takes a lot of swallowing.

Jilly is off up country to visit her grandkids and a commemorative dinner tonight for Ivan. See what the recycling facility has to offer this morning. Price of lead has gone through the roof, the new reactor at Hinckley Point needs about a zillion tons to line the thing.
Bought a pair of huge alloy cantilevered landing gear brackets---------must go fifty pounds apiece, enough alloy in it to make a space ship-----I'll post a piccie of em then you'll know what I'm on about!

The FONDA trophy was a weird concoction------Parkinson commissioned a famous face to sculpt what was probably the most hideous boat trophy ever--------was told on good authority it cost in the region of £25,000------- was always kept in a box.
Parkinson still has it in his collection of all things Mercury orientated-------he still has red blazers and silver and black race jackets from the seventies.
Jilly showed me my K7 Gold Star I won in Windermere in 72. I thought I'd lost it years ago------turns out it lives in her Jewellery box on the dressing table.
Should get the box and the concept finished tomorrow-------Her Majesty is away for the weekend so I was in the shop until 6:30pm------not bad for a saturdays work!

Molinari had built a boat that was horrendously quick but a stone bitch on tight corners,
He was also conned into jumping the start gun by Bentz and docked a lap-----in heat two he somehow managed to clout a turn buoy and was also docked a lap------GG was masterminding the whole thing, so it was a no contest in the end.
Surprised Fuji hasn't come up with all the answers on this one------made exciting biting for Mercury for many years----certainly in the annals of European boat racing folklore.
Heard many years later that if it had been in the USA it would have made top news--------but Europe could have been Jupiter or Mars as far as the USA boating press were concerned !

Billy Shakespeare had a picture of a young Bob Glen on his office wall it was taken on the day that Bob turned up with a new boat fitted with the first new almighty JOHNSON 75hp V4 OMC outboard to come to the UK he was about to give Billy a demonstration of its huge acceleration capabilities so bill watched a young Bob Glen gun this boat across the river into the side of a moored cruiser he sunk it and the picture on Billys wall showed the cruiser being raised from the water with Bobs boat still hanging out of it.Quote:

Another of boat racings "LEGENDS" !
Spent most of yesterday "SWIRLING" -------I first came across this method of finishing everything not painted black on anything to do with race boats. In the race shop in Oshkosh 1970, there was a bench press set up for nothing else but swirling------------foot throttles, steering wheels, steering bars, fuel tanks etc;----------polishing was out the window, a thing of the past--------hells teeth, they even swirled whole offshore RACE boats-------and then the Peterbilts that hauled the rigs.
Around 1970 anything made of steel or alloy was SWIRLED.
Still fooling around trying to finish a couple of boxes to offer safe passage to a couple of concept raceboats. Finally had to resort to cutting up a chunk of shuttering ply that had been kicking around for years and well past it's sell by date, and a length of 2" alloy angle which was swirled into respectability.
Came up with a novel way of lid fixing-------lid comes down on to two six mill bolts and voila !
Find it harder to actually finish anything these days, getting to be a bit of a procrastinator---- have to kick that habit into touch--------not enough time left to start that bloody silly game!
Ah well, as my sainted mother used to say after a "lie in"---- this won't buy the baby a new pair of shoes.
Time to greet another day, then send it packing!

In the end, selling the old Aronow tooling wasn't very lucrative for Gary. They were for sale forever & ever, no takers. They finally went away, one at a time, for a song. Can't say to whom.
Gary's career is littered with such tales--------"The nearly man"----Heshould have been a billionaire many times over. Garbrecht and Fountain should have been the super boat set up before Sunseekers hit the big time. Same thing with Mach props and Second Effort. Next time we met up was in Torriggia-------used to all meet early for breakfast in the local Alberge, most of the crew wanted bacon and eggs ------but American style-------what came out of the kitchen was a mish mash of Italian sausage and snotty eggs, nobody could eat it, so I I went down into Como and acquired some streaky bacon and fresh eggs-------took over the kitchen and made breakfast Oshberg style for the next week, GG liked me better after that.
That first summer in Italy with all the guys from Wisconsin, Wyrabeck (Becky). Dave Biers, Bill Welch, Roy Ridgell, Renato, Giorgio were some of the happiest times of my life!
Well now it can be told------was sworn to secrecy about the goings on in the American side of the Wilson clan.
Craig has a brand new sponsor in Spectre boats, who just happens to be the series sponsor also. He has his younger sister Kate on board as navigator -------should be interesting, wonder which one will deliver the first slap ? To me that's a highly volatile partnership, it'll either work like no other, or sink at the first turn buoy !
Media always did like a bit of skirt to brighten the day-----add to that a brother and sister ------plus a nice single good looker with a questionable temperament and you have a newsworthy pairing.
One of Craig's reasons for moving on was the fact he needed a new challenge and more seat time in a race boat.
So, he is now in charge of production at Spectre boats out of Port St. Lucie !
Right on the airfield up there, parking for a hundred cars and a near new facility of thousands of feet of factory floor. Umpteen offices etc;
one office run out of a separate garage nearby would suffice------but it seems multiple cooperate offices with views and plush carpets seems to be the norm these days.
Its all started happening so I'll just sit back and see what sort of a job he makes of it all.
