New Guy Looking for Fast/Affordable Fun
Howdy ya'll! I've been bitten by the performance boat bug and I'm looking to get a boat of my own. Actually I should say that I was bitten by the bug a looong time ago but I now have the means to get a boat of my own, even if it means selling my precious Polaris SLX. Anyways, I really would like a fast, versitile boat. I'm looking for something I can haul ass and play around in, but all so pull a skiier with. I really like the idea of having a jet boat, but the downside to those is that it doesn't look like they are good for saltwater operation. Being able to run in saltwater would be a huge plus. Hoever, if I had to, I think I'd be able to keep to the lakes.
I really like the old Hydrostream Voyagers with the I/O 350. I found one in Houston, but it was in bad condition. I could do an outboard boat I suppose, but they don't have that big block or small block car engine allure to them. What are some other boats similar to the hydrostream that I might like? I know about Donzi's and Baja's, but they allways seam to be out of my price range. I would really really like to keep this under 10K. I know that is not a whole lot to work with, but hey I have to start somewhere, and I don't need to newest, best boat. Just one that runs great! I really don't know my way around all the brands and models, as I come from a jet ski and bay fishing boat background lol. Anyone know of any good deals, or is anyone got a good deal for me? Thanks!!!!!

Go to buy/sell forums...
and look for an Allison Grand Sport. Best quality boat that will also meet all of your criteria. Any year Grand Sport will do, design hasn't changed much. Just check the bottom to make sure it has not taken too much beating from beaching, hitting objects, etc.

If a jet boat is what you want, out here in the west coast is a good place to look. There are tons of fun custom jets from makers like Hallett, Eliminator, Cole, Schiada, Southwind, Nordic, Advantage, Lavey, etc on the used market out here.

May I suggest a used checkmate? They are not the fastest V-hulls but when it comes to a good multi-purpose fast boat they fit the need. THe only problem with a V-8 I/o or jetboat is speed = $$$, at least when it comes to reliable speed. I am breaking the 70mph barrier in a 21ft boat that can handle rough water and I only spent 4500 bucks, this would not be possible if it was not an outboard.

Doesn't matter what boat you get but i would go with a STV or Mirage Jaguar Ski racer's for family to join in and you can deffinantly pull a skier behind if you go that direction im sure my dad wont mind selling our 5 blade prop just designed for skiiing and get a 2.4 brideport should 80+ and make sure before you do anything with it make sure you get some seat time
dont want to make a mistake too early

Ya know, ever since I've been looking here, I've really been more interested in an outboard.... I dunno why, theres just some kinda cool look to them. The Checkmates and Hydrostreams, etc. are dead sexy. Yeah I definately know not to push it untill I know what I'm doing. There is a boat here in Alamogordo parked in someones driveway. It looks like some sort of Hydrostream, but I'm not sure. I think I'm going to take a look at it tomrrow and maybe see if they might want to sell it. Cant hurt to get some info and try. Thanks for the replies ya'll!
