I got out bid on that 53/03 matching Corvette package.
Sold for 550,000.00. Them Vette boys have WAY too much money.
They sold a perfectly restored 1970 429 Boss Mustang with the rare Drag Pack for only 105,000.00-----------------------

Funny thing is, people still think they can pick up cars like they see on the auction for a decent low amount around town. It is as if they never saw a computer, ebay or a BJ auction. I have stupid SOBs calling on some of my stuff that are not even near 1980 prices on the items.
They always have some case to site of some similar car that just sold for way less money recently....if you knew the truth about the story it would have been a way molested crap pile, or a partial vehicle, non running, or some other crazy variation.
Fact is you can get over 10 grand or more for a clean 70's station wagon.
Just wait till the common 4 doors start bringing money on the block.
Over the last 15 years I kept my focus on cars that had all of their original sheet metal, not basket cases that needed to be rebodied, and that had seemingly correct drivetrains. I think it has paid off. I should stand to make several hundred (if not thousand) percent profit on all of them.
Problem is, when they are gone, most likely so are my chances of owning any more of equal caliber.
Will the market continue to go up at a stupid rate from here? I don't think so. If it goes up much more it will be a a pace in line with anual appreciation anyway. The BJ phenominon is what drove it up so dramaticaly over the last 7 years since they started.

prices
Do go up. I used to be able to buy a good Mopar, now I can't buy a nova.
I know thats not sounding rite, but I would rather have a Mopar.
The cars of today, anyone can have a new vette. But how many Boss 429s are to be had? Try going and finding a 70 Hemi Cuda ...... Convt. They only made 7 so it's just a matter of having something that sets the rich man apart from the rest of us. Like big SUVs people pay big price to look good, but with SUVs any one with $50 grand can look cool. But those same people look down on a old car thats got the real excluvisness. Where will it stop? when rich people stop getting big bucks driving in nascar and stop looking a Jay leno.

I agree that the prices on stuff has gone way up, but the B-J idiots are just crazy.. A lot of those people are on there pissing away thier money just to get on TV. I saw some stuff that was semi-reasonable, but if you pay 75K for a '69 383 Roadrunner you should be shot for contributing to the problem.. I (sort of) understand the prices of the hemi and six-pack cars, but to imply that this makes a 318 Duster worth big money is just stupid. All these big-money cars are is a serial number. There's no point in stealing a car anymore.... Just bust into somebody's garage and steal the VIN tag..
All you guys that have 200k to spend on old cars... Well, good for you.. but remember what happened to the Ferrari speculators in the early 90's.. The people that paid 70K for an '81 308 and two years later had a car worth half that...Currently involved in activity that can only break one piston at a time......

About 5 yrs ago I flew to Pheonix to sell an old Corvette roadster.
1970 LT-1, one of 1200 cars built.
The place was packed. 30 minutes before my car came across the block it started to pour. REAL heavy and 90% of the buyers left.
During the bidding I saw 1 active bidder, but the ring man was calling bids from all over the room.
Later I learned he had that guy bidding against a lamp and a few empty chairs.

I often wonder if some of the guys even have a clue about what there biddng on. I don't understand why people buy there, as usually stuff gets more then top bucks. I still get envious when people drop $500,000 on a car, and I bet sometimes never sit in it. BTW, stop saying things like "the bj phenomina", its freaking me out

Barret Jackson and all this numberz crap haz ruined tha NORMAL manz chances of have'in a hobby(muscle car area) without sell'in tha farm...I have several Mopars, and wuz told I wuz crazy for parting out a 71 V-8 dart, matching numbers car...I bought it for parts, but it wuz a complete car(runn'in and driver)...I wanted the hard to find parts for my 66 dart wagon...disc brakes, PS, A/C etc...66 dart V-8 wagons are a one yeer deel, sheet metal is only for that yeer, Last yeer for the Station Wagon in the dart series...My Wagon wuz purchased new by My Grandpaw in 1965, and haz been in the family ever since...Is it rare???...like chickenz teeth!!!...How much is it worth???...What ever sumone wants to pay for one...BUT, If I put it on the market(which I won't) It will be downed to scrap price, because of the numbers no longer matching...Screw them damm numbers...I am almost finished, and when it iz it will be a loaded out, daily driver, complete wit trailer hitch, and the brakes to stop it and a boat(sumpth'in that wuz unheard ov in 66)...It will be a one ov a kind!!!!...Not anuther in exzistance like it...SO, what ya rekon it'z worth at BJ auction???.......Even a 140K hemi car iz way over tha top az for az I'm concerned...I had them cars(street cars az well az race hemi's)...six pacs, R/T's, Super bees, roadrunners, challengers..,.Only thang I never had wit tha mopar star wuz a superbird/daytona charger, kuz I thought it wuz kinna crazy to own a 200mph car in tha backwood swamps ov Lousiana!!!...Corse, if I knew then, what I know now

I'm With Rex
I watch Barret Jackson every time I run across it and just sit and wonder what are these people thinking. I don't even remember the make or model but it was a early sixties sedan with 4 doors and a vinyl bench seat (I think it was a Impala) Because it had the big motor in it and that was the only one built that way it brought 140 thousand dollars. I wouldn't drive it to the Sonic. But because some nerd orderd it that way 40 years ago and nobody else has one it's worth that? Not to me.

Hey
T Rexs wagon is worth a lots in a auction, because it's been owned by T Rex.
When cars are owned by famous people they are worth more. The fact it is not matching #s don't mean much because it was just a plain wagon, but is now better because of the updates. Who knows where the prices will go, and it is like musical chairs.
Things are worth what ya can sell them for.

Think about it.....most Gibson and Fender (and other big brand) guitars sold before the sixties have gone up over 2000% in value.
G.I. Joes and Barbies and items of this nature have as well.
Some Aurora, Faller, Cox slot cars have gone up over 2000%
There is antique furniture and china that has gone up 50,000%
Even Google stock has gone up exponential amounts...whats more rare?
A 43 year old 4 door 409 Impala in survivor condition or some paper that says Google on it from 2 years ago?
I would not buy anything there, but I sure would sell there. Most of these cars are on the third or fourth restoration....mine have only been repainted 1 time and never needed any restoring.
