No it isn't.It is the first race the boat has run.It is a Quartershot T1 Drag with a MontyV8.A boat with an Attitude by Full Throttle Powerboats.A winning Attitude at that.

    How bout it Texas

ModVP22, the world record holding V8 boat is hanging in the Race Rock resteraunt in Orlando. The Mod-U boat with a V8 is a Seebold tunnel I believe. And as Racemore said the drag boat with the 8 is a Quartershot.

Actually, the V-8 that set the outboard speed record wasn't a Mod-U boat. It was a wooden Karelson hydroplane, specially built for the speed run. The boat originally was solid red when it set the record, now it is painted white and is hanging from the ceiling at Race Rock in Orlando.

I have a funny story about when the driver, Bob Wartinger of Seattle, went down to Florida to make the first test run. He secretly had hidden one of those old man rubber Halloween masks inside the cockpit.

He was told to make one pass and then shut it down, and the tow boat crew would then come out and tow him in. After the pass, and while he sat inside the cockpit, waiting for the crew to come get him, he shoved that ugly mask under his helmet.

When the crew boat came closer, they asked Bob "How was it?".

Bob flipped open the canopy lid and the other guys' jaws dropped! With that hideous mask just slightly visible underneath his face shield, Bob shouted,
"MAN! It was HAIRY OUT THERE!!!"

Guess that's what they mean when they say,
    "SPEED CHANGES YOU"

I have the pictures of it........ they are in that Samsonite that I still can't find

    Thats cool BK

That boats Awesome .When it comes right down to it Mercury has been chasing OMC for a long time and there's no end in sight. It was quite an undertaking to set that record,to make speed they had to make a set of gears for an overdrive ratio, they made 2 sets and they have both of them.Record Insurance The gearing was so tall it took Nitros to get it on a plane.I don't have to tell you who is taking about building a hydro for a shot at it do I.Hint;I think he's already got more HP
Are ya going to Palaka? Mt. Pleasant?

    Racemore

No, not going to make it to Palatka or Mt. Pleasant, though I sure do miss hanging out with all those great people. We spent so many years with David Berry, Ro, Goodman, Jay Smith, David Berry et al, it would be a lot like going to a family reunion.

Hope to make it to Jasper this year! Working on those plans. Maybe we will meet there?

My first race will be the PROP race in Bay City MI in June -- my other family. Many of those drivers were running the Colorado River mini enduros with me back in the '80s before I ever knew Brad. Todd Bowden, Jason Campbell, Foster, Hoffman, Johnny Lane, so it's like "Old Home Week". Can't wait - Bay City is always a blast!
