The rear edge of the running surface is usually a "soft" rounded edge out of the mold. This edge can be roughed up, filled in with thickened epoxy filler, and sanded flat to achieve a sharp, squared-off edge at the rear, to reduce drag. Some people like to fill in and flatten the pad and surrounding area, but this may change handling characteristics, and is NOT recommended for most hulls. The Vegas XT, for example, has a slight "hook" to the pad surface. It was designed that way. This helps to reduce low to mid-speed porpoise, among other things.
Blueprinting in general, refers to making the running surface as true and correct as possible for optimum hydrodynamics and performance.'89 Hydrostream Vegas XT, '90 Merc 2.4 Bridgeport PCU EFI

Read up on the hook, search this site and look on www.hydrostream.org and make your own decision. Everyone has their own view on this but I would leave it alone. Just sharpen all the edges on the strakes, pad, transom and make sure the rest of the running surface is true.

If its top end you want then flatten the pad and sharpin all edges and it will be prone to porpising! Then you have to fine tune the boat and trim the boat again the good thing is smaller changes will be needed to change the trim. But you will pay for it if the set up is wrong.
