Drivers for scanner
You probably just need new drivers for the scanner greg, go to the MFG. of the scanner, they usually post upadates to drivers for the new XP platform.

New Drivers
Not if he got one of those 69.95 things from Best Buy with the $50 rebate, or something like that. My mother has one like that and she just bought a new computer, came with XP, the scanners about a year old and didn't have XP drivers on the install disk. I went to their web site, they actually had one, and they had all kinds of XP drivers for their high dollar scanners but didn't even mention the el'cheapo. Guess they figured for only a $20 investment, you could afford to throw it away and buy another.

not a cheap-o
the scanner is a visioneer and it wasn't one of the cheap-os I would expected it if it was i have the drivers for the scanner working it will scan just the paper port program that i have to change from bmp to jpeg doesn't work it come up with a error and shuts down I have installed it and uninstalled it several times it will not load. I am tring to get them to e-mail me a fix. sucks wish I still had the old one with 98 it had everything working. This is a pain but if I ever get it all working it will be cool.

A friend of mine who is a Rep for HP told me last week that They have been getting SO manny requests to down grade to Windows ME that they are having some special meetings with microsoft later this month to discuss what the Service pacs are going to do for XP. They also have had record returns through the retailers of PCs with XP installed on them and the number 1 reason stated is in a nut shell "XP SUCKS" I have it.... took it off my computer and put 98SE back on. XP looks nice but Nothing runs right!

That's the scuttlebutt I've been getting too...
XP sucks. It works with little of the hardware and software currently being used in the real world.

I don't know how we go on this subject but ME SUCKS, that is what caused my computer to crash. I don't much about XP but when the salesman at the computer store tried to sell me XP I was spooked after ME so I went home and reinstalled 98 and now, on the same computer, every thing works great and twice as fast.

Well have old stator off and was testing with my mulitmeter it has 7 wires if i remember right four(blue, red, bluewhite, redwhite) go to the switch boxes one ground, and two yellow that go to the rectifire. With my meter set on ohms the resitance was right on for the four wires that go to switch boxes. But when the book said to test one red and the(black) ground the restance was way over the limit the book said! It then said to test the redwhite with the (black) ground same thing way off!!I hope that is the low side in the stator!! Skydog

Us1 is right
98 SE is really the best of the bunch. Faster than everything and most compatible. I had XP on the Liquid cooled RUDE But I took it off cuz it Sucks ..... doesnt work with half my crapp. I am going to try it again on the kids machine next week. Keep your 98 everyone until Bill gates prys it from your fingers!
