I am back...well sorta !!
Guys/Gals first off let me say THANK YOU for the cards, emails, and phone calls I have recieved from several you. I will get around to thanking each one personally very soon.
As far as the surgery, the Doctors really thought this was a routine bone fusion procedure until they got into my spine. What they found was that the titanium splint that was put on my broken spine (boat racing accident in 92) had actually slipped somewhat and protruded into my c-7 disc and spinal cord cavity. On the way it took some fragments of bone and disc with it that was resting too close on my spinal cord. Recovery is going to be slow and hard because there was some nerve damage affecting my left hand and fingers. As of now I have no feeling in three of my left hand fingers, wrist, and arm. This also limits the use of my hand becuause it is hard to do anything with your hand asleep if you know what I mean. The best way to decribe it is when you sleep on your hand the wrong way and you get that springing numbness sensation except this is that times 10 with sharp pains coming every few minutes.
They say IF, the feeling returns it could take as long as 8-10 months to do so. I go back for anither MRI on Friday so they can determine if futher surgery is needed. So right now I am nursing this 4 inch incision on my neck and when standing, wearing a neck brace to limit the motions . I am keeping a positive attitude about this and praying for the best. You knwo it's funny, you never notice what all you do with your fingers until you can't use them. Take typing for instance, this post has taken me over 15 minutes using one hand but hey, I have all the time in the world, I guess.
At any rate, thanks again to all my FRIENDS and I mean that when I say friends! I am going to mess around some in the shop this weekend and see just how much this is going to intrude on my graphics work. Hopefully it won't be nad but there again, I have never noticed how much the left hand is used doing that either. Take care and Ipromise I'l get the promised graphics out tothose who were needing stuff very soon. Trust me on that one, I need the money LOL !!! Kidding guys, just kidding I am OK.Craig Stripling

Glad to hear from you Craig
I was getting a little worried because I didn't see any posts from you since you went in to the hosipital. Even posted on this board asking if anyone knew your condition. Well. we all know now and wish you a speedy recovery. BTW, How's your sense of humor?
OK. I'll test it.
You know, this "no feeling in the hand thing" would of been a lot worse if you were a left handed, young teen with a subscription to Playboy.
You are right handed, aren't you!
Get well soon.

Glad to hear and sorry to hear........
about your hospital stay. Sorry to hear about the compications but damn blad to hear you are out. Back and neck surgery is nothing to fool around with so just take it easy and let it heal itself. You will be bouncing back in no time. Good to see you on the board again buddy.

Hey Craig!
So glad you are doing better. It was pretty scary not knowing how you were doing, especially after no response to Nick's inquiry.
Thanks for the updates. I've been told I need neck surgery from my boat accident too, (C5 protrusion into spinal cord) but I'm way too chicken ~~~ You sir, are very brave!
I've got a game that I think you'll enjoy while you recuperate ---, a little boat racing starter practice with some "finger physical therapy" to help your fingers get back to normal......
Enjoy!

Craig,
I missed the first part of your thread, but I just read this one. Yes, I need to spend more time on the boards.
I am terribly sorry to hear about the difficulties you are dealing with, and I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say that our thoughts and wishes are with you and your speedy recovery. Of course, if there is anything we can ever do, it's just a phone call away.
Take it easy, relax, and get better my friend!
