    I have to vent

A few years ago I sent my drag to be completly gone through because all I have done to that point is put new rings and rod bolts in it, and I was noticing the bores getting out of round. So I got upgrades, 2 ring pistons ballanced rods lightened flywheel and agreed to a front end cut to hopefuly pick up the low end hit. I told him I didn't want the block ported as I have enough top end but if there are any sharp edges or casting flash to clean up go ahead and smooth them up. When it came back the first thing I noticed was epoxy on the block, it made me ill seeing this. A perfect drag block ruined. I voiced my displeasure but too late now. Well it is lazy on the bottem now. Now I am puting new rings and bolts in it after a few years and found out the reason for the epoxy, the block had the snot hoged out of the rod slots . I dont know if this could ever be fixed. the only way I could see how is to pull the sleaves weld it up and put new nic sleaves in, or get another stock block.
I am a lake guy that dosen't live at 10000 rpm, and saved my ass off to buy this brand new in 2001 and was really proud of owning the badest motor Merc made. The moral of this story is be careful of what you don't ask for you may get it any way. I guess I will rering one more time use it for a while then sell because I will be too old to drive it anymore.
There, I feel better now, until I go out to finish up my ring project.

    Merry Christmas

Reminds me of this ODBA Pro Gas racer from long ago, he was so dominant, that Diamond Marine gained a few new customers...

That was until his last rebuild, they were supposed to just freshen it up. the rings and bearings,

The story goes, they found extra power Dyno testing another motor, so they made some small changes to his block for free

Expecting It would help him even more, Just the opposite, he did nothing but bad mouth them after that, sold his race boat, quit.

I talked to Marty from Diamond afterwards and he said he didn't understand because it made more power on the Dyno,

Pat the owner of the 1/4 Master race boat said. I'm not dyno racing, I lost midrange and races.

Man that sucks sorry to hear. Nothing worse than trusting a business or person with something truly special like this and getting shabby work done. That would boil my hide too

I had the same thing happen to a bridgeport years ago. John Doe thought he knew what he was doing but was just a hack. Sorry for your bad luck Bill.

The work he did was great, except for looking in the front and seeing the epoxy plugging the hole ground through the block by the finger ports. In automotive terms I wanted a gasket match and bowl blend, what I got was a full-on pro stock port job. The motor runs great except it lost the hole shot. That would suck if I drag raced, but it might be better with a 22-pitch prop. But I run a 29 Hyperdrive most of the time. I like running 100 mph at 7300. Fastest I have ben is 115 at 8300, there still is a ton left. It used to hole shot decent with the 29, not so much anymore. Jay Smith did the work, and I am not talking bad about his work. I think it was a total lack of communication and understanding.
If you are having work done to your stuff, be absolutely sure you are on the same page.

It is an XR2002 and I love flying it, I probably re
ring one or two times, that should get me into my 70's. Hopefully I can still drive it then, if not maybe I will get a Tuff 25 with one of those newfangled 750R's. Or a Tuff 28 with two 750R's. if I hit the Powerball

Pat was a very close friend of mine. Boat was named “Drastic Plastic” because Pat used a bunch of CC’s to pay for his addiction. I’ve lost touch with him after he had a bad stroke some years ago. I’ve tried to get ahold of him several times but I’m afraid he may have passed but I don’t know.

Sorry to hear, I always liked him. If I remember right, he kept smoking cigs.

    I don't understand what CC's are ?

I remember him telling me that he had overcome addiction problems.

Tommy Dunn just had a heart attack, then triple bypass surgery. I wouldn't expect that from him, only 61 years old, never smoked, never drank, he wouldn't let me drive if I had one beer, while testing, you never know, some people have heredity issues,
Wally Lampkin of Triad Boats has been struggling for 8 years now. He's not doing well. I'm not sure if I'd fight to stay alive if I were in a bad situation medically. Just lying in bed is not living to me. Jumping on my 1400 Kaw just for the rush makes me feel young.
My uncle, through marriage died at 57 snow sking in Switerland, the year before I was sking with him and at lunch he says I would like to die from a massive heart attack, because It's painless, a year latter he got his wish, non smoker, just a limited social drinker, thin, but he became a heart surgen because he had heredity problems with the heart. But to say such a thing to me a year earler then to have it happen,
after watching both of my parents waste away in nursing homes, I want it quick, I'm thinking of going over Niagara Falls, I grew up 15 miles away and I never get bored going there, seriously If I get to the point that I don't want to live anymore because of a health issue, always can find a used jet boat on Facebook, and go for a ride, yeehaw, what a rush I'm 71 time is running out

NOW I understand "DRASTIC PLASTIC" I was thinking fiberglass

I remember he didn't make all the races because he was a one- man upholstery shop owner.

Jimmy Clouser, who raced against him, was happy when he didn't show, it was almost a given that he would win.

The good old days... I see Paul Freeman is still racing and winning; he was the President of the Tenn. Drag Boat group in the 90's

Then, the first President of ODBA, I always liked him and learned to appreciate his brother, Jerry, at first I wasn't sure about him, but after

Working on the starting barge, we became good friends. I heard he's had health issues. Also.
